  1. Wish I was there for the last few days - looked perfect off-piste, albeit with a higher than favourable risk of avalanche. I was in fact there for Christmas - had about 80% of pistes open and good conditions considering
  2. Heading out to Mayrhofen on 21st - Hope this high pressure doesn't last forever - need my powder fix
  3. Snowing very lightly in WN6 - perfect day to get the security light fitted outside
  4. Hintertux was reporting 80cm of fresh this morning, but closed - personally if I worked there and it was the first serious powder day of the season, I'd stay close it too!! Wonder how many of them were out on the mountain still??
  5. Yes, snow forecasts can vary quite widely - out of interest, which sites do you use for skiing weather? - personally, I use Bergfex and find it pretty good. I go to Mayrhofen most Christmas' - as you have have already mentioned, the glacier ensures that there is always somewhere to ski - last Christmas it was very mild, but still managed 1 powder day I think.
  6. Looks like the first major dump of the season due this week - down to fairly low levels too. All in time for me booking my first trip of the season today Christmas in Mayrhofen.
  7. Heading to Mayrhofen next weekend for a week by myself. Was due to go on saturday with my brother but he cannot now make it due to an inflammation of his leg condition Not the highest of resorts but has access to hintertux if it does get a bit too slushy. May not be the powder week I was after, but better than nothing.
  8. Thanks for the input - yes, been watching the model thread daily and as you say a number of possible outcomes. I was in fact meaning the Western Alps - I normally stick to Austria, but dependant on forecast I would be tempted to head to France this time. I guess that with leaving it until next week to book it may just be a case of where is available. Mayrhofen is my usual haunt (and nice cheap packages under £300 can always be found there), so I'm kind of hoping that a shift of the lows east will happen when/if they reach the continent.
  9. Planning to book a late deal next week departing on 1st Feb for by 30th on the 7th Not really sure what to do - I am a big off piste skier and after the drab week away at Christmas and sticking mainly to piste I need my powder fix! I'm thinking that I may be best looking to head west to find the best conditions - what are everyone else's thoughts? Any eyeball reports of decent conditions currently away from the pistes? For anyone interested, below is a ling to my ski channel:- http://www.youtube.com/user/NoProSkiChannel
  10. I'd say it'spretty much the same risk to be honest - I normally spent a week out in the Alps around my birthday (7th Feb) and never been without snow.
  11. Off to Mayrhofen, Austria next Sunday for a week. Being a backcountry skier looking for at least as much snow again as there has already been this year. Unlikely, but if so will need to be very careful of that layer there would inevitably be Hopefully the temps will drop with could cover / snow from Friday as being shown a possibility so that the pack can consolidate well. Either way, keep safe peeps.
  12. A while since I posted on Netweather, but seeing as I am touring the Alps this winter, thought I may as well chip in. Snow overall this season has been great - currently in Lermoos and just enjoyed a nice powder day with clear blue skies Off to Matrei in the morning for a week. Anyway, to view current conditions of wherever I am you can see my posts on my YouTube channel:- https://www.youtube.com/user/NoProSkiChannel?feature=mhee Happy skiing people
  13. Going back to Austria on Saturday. If t+192 was to occur,a little powder to say the least http://cdn.nwstatic.co.uk/gfsimages/gfs.20120131/18/192/6hrprecip.png
