  1. Agreed - Storm Ciara was/is nothing too unusual for this part of the world, just a fairly typical winter storm and the squall line wasn't as bad as some I've experienced. What is unusual about Ciara is the widespread effects - it isn't every day you see gale force winds across almost all of the UK.
  2. Manchester to Frankfurt, that's some divert but no doubt the nearest sensible option - weather at AMS wasn't great either.
  3. 1350 METAR on January 18th 2007 reported 65 knot gusts - memorable as it took the felt off my shed roof and some on my street lost a couple of roof tiles. Looks like EK17 has given up with MAN and is off to his alternate.
  4. Highest gust speed I have seen from MAN since I got into this weather lark back in 2007. I suspect the readings reflect the wind speeds during the passing of the squall line.
  5. Unfortunately the updated app still crashes on my iPad Air 2, now running 8.1.3.
  6. Turned on Location Services for the app in Settings - the app still crashes on my iPad running 8.1.2. Interestingly the app works on my iPhone 6 Plus running 8.1.3...
  7. I was quite excited to see this app. Sadly it seems the problem isn't restricted to iOS7 - the app crashes on my iPad 2 Air running 8.1.2.
  8. Yep, Met Office is forecasting 60mph gusts for Rochdale on Thursday, not something we see every day, or even every year...
  9. Yep, yellow warnings from 12:00 on Friday until 06:00 on Saturday but before people get too excited they are for rain and not wind.
  10. We may not be able to feel or know 'nothing' but it exists…what can you remember from before you were born?
  11. Nothing. We have awareness, consciousness etc because of our brains and the brain dies when we do. So there's nothing after death, that's it, sorry..
  12. Looking at the radar we are right on the very NE edge of the snow and currently are dry. Is the band likely to make any/much further progress NE?
  13. TAFs can be useful if you live close enough to a TAF airport - they are valid for 5 miles around the airport. They're not intended to 'illustrate the real potential of a system', rather to give pilots some weather input to plan their flights.
  14. For me, it is worth the price; I really like the iPad. TBH I mainly use it for casual browsing and email and it's just more convenient than getting the laptop out. The screen is gorgeous, and multitouch comes into its own with a big screen; browsing especially benefits. The device isn't perfect though; it's a little heavy to hold for any length of time, and that screen doesn't half attract fingerprints...
  15. I have just bought an iPad; it's a great device and there are a number of weather apps available for it, but they are mostly US-Centric and lack things like UK radar. I would like to suggest you consider developing a netweather app for the iPad; the the V5 Radar would look great on an iPad screen...
