Bring on the first sunny spring day with temperatures into the high teens!

i agree but lets face it, thats as unlikely atm as a decent prolonged snowfall... and thats the problem, we all lose out with this rather horrid weather (which is ok in small doses but not for a prolonged spell).

I'd actually welcome this weather (minus the serious damage caused) in October-December, not least because that's when it's most common. To still have to put up with this dross though in February just takes the p. I suppose one positive of today's weather is that I've heard thunder for the first time this year, even more unusual that it's in February.

There is some lovely scenic and snowy pics in the Scottish Mountain thread currently if anyone hasn't noticed.

A sort of second hand snowfix-a different world up there and it looks like plenty more to come for that area.Great Winter sports conditions ready for half term.

And, no mention of any cold/snow at the weekend from BBC Weather (although charts are showing a slider low!)

Obviously, they are not yet seeing any real potential and with temperatures currently well above average to the North or East, I really can't blame them.

There's no real cold to tap into!

I pay no attention to any BBC weather forecasts except the pretty weather girls if they're doing the forecasts! Stick to the output models!

They wont commit this far out, especially as it's borderline anyway.

A look at Friday 3pm on the 06z GFS

and of course this surface pattern may well be different come the day. They will be monitoring it but any widespread risk wont be pinned down yet with any need for warnings being tackled much closer to the day.

There is a feel of the early March 1995's about the upcoming pattern in my opinion, not matching any particular chart but just feel that's the way any snow event would develop if we did have one.

Latest from the woodshed

UK Outlook for Saturday 13 Feb 2016 to Monday 22 Feb 2016:

Unsettled and rather cold conditions are likely to continue through the weekend. Cold, showery conditions across the north at first may give spells of snow, with overnight frosts likely. Further south more prolonged spells of rain are likely, with a risk of this turning wintry, most likely over high ground. It will be windy at times, with a possibility of gales, most likely in the northeast and far southwest. It may turn drier from the west early in the following week, although remaining cold with overnight frosts. Later on, unsettled conditions are likely to return, with northwestern areas seeing the wettest, windiest weather, and southeastern areas likely to see more in the way of dry weather. Temperatures returning to near normal, although with overnight frosts still possible.

Yes it would still be brave for them to forecast snow now when even less than a week out its not a clear cut outcome. Though snow to areas outside the usual suspects has been mentioned by forecasters sporadically over the past few days as a possibility only.

Met Office have also said that more settled conditions could return at the end of the month into March. Is the end of the storm barrage finally in sight?

I think at this stage winter is pretty much over bar the shouting. Next week looks particularly mild now, after the models kept us going for a few days.

Overall it's been another mild, wet, windy, and completely snowless one with very little in the way of frost. Yet another stinker.

Here's my early prediction for winter 2016/17. More of the same :(

Sorry, cold, snowy and stormy 2016 Spring on the cards apparently. A cold outbreak in May is also forecast, so anyone looking for a warm spring will be bitterly disappointed ( no pun intended)
