Lying now right down to Riverside.

Interesting. Temp here now down to 1.4c from 3.7c at 0940. More snow than rain now but still a mix. Tantalisingly close to the first proper snowfall here since Dec 2010. If we could just get the dew point down a shade more and get a cm on the ground.

Updated snow warning

Issued at: 1041 on Sun 29 Nov 2015

Valid from: 1045 on Sun 29 Nov 2015

Valid to: 1000 on Mon 30 Nov 2015

Outbreaks of rain are now beginning to turn to snow in areas north of the Central Belt, the snow becoming heavy in places and locally persisting into Sunday afternoon, more especially in the north. This may bring a few cm of snow even to low levels, while 10-15 cm could accumulate over some high ground areas. Following the clearance of the more general wintry precipitation, further clusters of heavy wintry showers will come in from the west, even extending to parts of southern Scotland on Sunday evening and at first on Sunday night, leading to further accumulating snow in places (especially the west Highlands). This will also bring an enhanced risk of ice into Monday morning. Please be aware of the need to take extra care and allow more time for travel. Note that the southern limit of the more widespread snow during Sunday late morning and early afternoon remains uncertain.

Chief Forecaster's assessment

An area of low pressure is tracking across Scotland, bringing more widespread sleet or snow to the north of the low centre for a few hours on Sunday. The southern limit of this wintry threat is still not totally pinned down, given that there is a very sharp cut off between the cold air and much milder air in southern Scotland, with the intensity of the precipitation also playing a part - heavy precipitation can more readily turn to snow. On current evidence, the most likely areas to be affected by the more widespread snow would be Argyll, west Dunbartonshire, Stirlingshire, Clackmannanshire, Fife, Perth & Kinross and Angus. From late Sunday afternoon onwards, a mix of wintry showers is expected, some heavy and still producing some tricky conditions overnight.

Temprefusing to go below 2.7C and the dew point refusing to go below 1.5C so looks like I'll have to put up with rain  for a little bit longer

If you look on the radar there is a distinct line of heavy precipitation running south west to north east, about 20 miles north of central belt. Cold enough air for wintry stuff to the north, rain to south. Be interesting to watch its progress.

Snowing (wetly) in Falkirk. Sort of a rain/snow mix.

All of a sudden the wind has picked up and it turned to hail stones and a little bit of snow and the temperature was at 3.0/2.5C. That was 5 minutes ago, now its dropped back to 2.7/1.4C and still hail

Intensity of the precipitation has eased and it's back to rain here. Very much a case of evaporative cooling doing the trick. Well at least I got to see some falling snow, which was a bonus...

I'll take the mongoose prize this morning then - further north yet just wet sleet in the most intense ppn.

Was wet sleet in Thornton, Glenrothes an hour ago, stopped suddenly for 15 mins or so, now belting down with snow and laying.

'Lecky blanket and duvet sounds good for the afternoon!

Don't laugh. This counts as a heavy snowfall in Crail.post-11132-0-47455500-1448797946_thumb.j

Edit: you can tell I'm not in the habit of posting snow pics....it's upside down.

Snowing steadily, 0.5c.

(Sorry for not pulling my weight in the mongoose stakes, HC)

Snow has stopped here, we ended up with a very thin covering, nothing measurable but a very nice surprise. Remarkable how evaporative cooling pulled the temperature down from 3.7c at 0940 to 0.4c at 1140.
