:help:  :help:  Storm Barney!

Issued at:

Valid from:

Valid to:

2330 on Tue 17 Nov 2015

West to southwesterly gales and locally severe gales are likely to sweep eastwards across parts of Wales, southern, central and eastern England later on Tuesday. Gusts could reach 60-70 mph inland and possibly 80 mph along exposed coasts, particularly Wales and through the Bristol Channel.

Be aware of the risk of disruption to travel and that gusts of this strength could bring down trees and lead to some damage to weakened structures. A deepening area of low pressure is likely to track east across southern Ireland and then central parts of the UK during Tuesday afternoon and evening, with a swathe of very strong winds potentially developing on the southern flank of the low. At this stage, the worst of the winds are expected to reach West Wales mid to late afternoon, sweeping rapidly eastwards during the evening. There remains a good deal of uncertainty in this evolution and particularly the location of the strongest winds, so this Warning will be kept under review and updated as necessary.

I BRING YOU A RAMP!

uksnowrisk.png

Wouldn't that be great if it was 12/18h to go. Shame it's 6 days away.

Mind you, that's much more like it and excitable, a 50mph wind gust on Tuesday evening doesn't quite do it for me I'm afraid.

Storm Barney looks pretty windy for the SW and West wales though.

Good afternoon, a pretty decent day here again with sunny spells and just a gentle breeze. Cooler than yesterday but still mild.

Tomorrow looking a little wild with winds strengthen during the day. 60-70mph gusts possible during the evening and overnight, the winds easing by dawn.

Beyond that there is a lot of uncertainty regard when and how potent the cold snap will be this coming weekend.

Meh, cloudy today with a bit of light rain here and there.  Looks pretty wet tonight before storm Barney arrives tomorrow.

Well they are in collaboration with Met Office so you'd assume it is a reliable forecast unless it is using old data?

Looks like a brief cold spell to me :ninja: Nothing to get excited about, especially down south. Beware of weather models bearing false gifts and all that, happens time and time again and we always fall for it.

Well if the GFS is right then snow could be possible to low levels for a time on Saturday.

Can we get some showers to come with this pocket of very cold air though?

As for today, mild and windy at the moment,

Looks like the very far south will be spared the worst today and later.. (apart from the south east coast)

Using XC weather as I find it very accurate in the short time frame it wants the following:

Max wind speeds

Heathrow 58mph gusts

Gravesend 56mph gusts

Stanstead 61mph gusts

Biggin Hill 51mph gusts

Southend 60mph gusts

Further North 60-70mph is showing

Thanks for all the 'heads up' Surrey. Those will be nasty gusts and unfortunately there's likely to be trees down and structural damage somewhere in our patch. I do enjoy these severe events, I just hope no-one gets hurt.

And at 08.00 it's such a benign start to the day.... dull, grey, drizzly and just a gentle breeze and 12.9C.

The shipping forecast this morning was going for violent storm force 11 for a time in the Thames area in the next 24 hours...

It was mild (13 degrees) and calm this morning when I left Southend at 5:30.

Thats some powerful winds.. Ignore the people complaining that the met should update the warnings and remove it for the South... this is a ever changing situation and we don't know for sure what will happen. The storm is already below the pressure it should be forested at this time..
