Updated amber warnings with an increase in potential rainfall totals, 200-250mm for the most exposed high ground...

EA now have 25 flood advisories covering most rivers in the region and virtually all of those running east from the Pennines are also under advisories.

Low lying areas are certainly going to be under threat as rivers drain and more locally to here, I'd imagine that the flood sirens in Todmorden and other towns along the Calder Valley will be in use later today or overnight.

Rain is pretty steady here and it's still only showing light blue on the radar, heavier stuff pepping up later....not looking good even at this early stage for those in lower areas especially near rivers, which I expect will become raging torrents over the course of the next few days.

p.s My thoughts go out for those in Paris.

Been raining here all day, and its increasing all the time as expected.

Really worried around here, especially for Skipton and Crosshills as the flood defenses haven't been completed, this has the hall marks of being a significant event. Especially as we already had flooding around here 3 days ago.

likelihood of flooding in some areas.

If it plays out like the hi res models are predicting most areas on the North half of the Pennines will be flooded. Question is will Carlisle's defences hold?

Getting a bit heavier here now, although as you said the forecast still keeps the heavier stuff away until later.

Agree about events in Paris and it just shows how vulnerable we all are while these idiots are following their lunatic views.

RIP the inocent victims.

It's stopped raining with glimpses of blue sky, quite surprised but very welcome! Don't imagine it will stay that way.

That seems to be the case at the moment though the amber warning doesn't actually come into affect till 18:00 its going to be a case of waiting and watching the radar

The Amber warning for parts of the Northwest is one stage off a red warning

Light rain only so far, very light in the main, but the heavier stuff isn't expected until later this afternoon - still a lot of uncertainty just how intense the rainfall becomes, where will catch the heaviest stuff and for how long...

Its been a cold day so far as well - very much a November feeling day, gloomy grey skies..

Is it me or is the main bulk further south looks like it starting to break over Cumbria

The main rain isn't expected until later this evening onwards.

I think we might get of lightly looking at the current radar

Still a long way to go yet lets see how things are looking later tonight
