Very little rain here so far. Wind is increasing but is still only a fresh breeze. 13.5°C.

Looking forward to a showery night after the cold front clears, heralding the first convective polar maritime spell since the beginning of September.

Got a stinker of a pressure headache at the moment, drizzle just starting in Buxton with winds close to 40mph in the exposed areas. Still plenty of tree's in-leaf around these parts so I won't be too surprised if the light flickers a few times this eve.

Some torrential bursts of rain as the cold front moves through accompanied by gusty winds, but they should start to ease for a time before turning westerly later and increasing again.

Gusts over the Western Isles now reaching 60-70mph.

Couple of charts etc copied over from the regional thread, some from the Netwx NMM and excellent 500m radar, others from EuMeTrain.

Have just driven from Aberdeen > Perth > West Lothian and those are some hefty squall lines interspersed with strong enough wind to cause some vehicles to meander across lanes, proper fun and games when you throw in the surface water and spray.

From the Water Vapour Imagery and RGB airmass products you can see a neat slot of stratospheric dry air punching down - the black area and also the red on the airmass.

Looks liveliest toward midnight and stay safe those in the Isles.

First of a few to come and think Abigail might be a nice mellow starter...

Lets see if the rain survives the journey here normally if fizzles out or splits and goes round us.

good evening, quite a noisy one so far up here in the western isles.

windy midday followed by a very dramatic lull and even some nice late evening sunshine out on the west coast here.

Abigail making herself known now.

I've had sustained winds of over 40mph for an hour or so now, top gust here off my station at 1812 was 66.7mph.   Had a slight dropping off since then again in terms of the gusts but as i type there we go 63.1mph.

could be an interesting night.
