I can't post charts at the moment but the GFS 0Z, especially the latter half, would probably keep the Scottish and Alpine ski industries more than happy. Repeated cyclonic systems getting down into Europe from the NW, and on the colder side of the Jetstream.

Not sure many of us in low lying UK areas would be quite as enamoured with it though.

One frame later (can post charts, am at work) and the whole thing ('blob of risk') has slipped SE - the South East and London forum will crash at this rate.

I write with a smug (and hopeful grin)

Soon to be known as the Gap of un-fulfilment?

Howver on the warnings-Its almost a Venn diagram joy for weather lovers, with the intersection being winter weather fans' intersection of joy, or the WWFIJ, as I have just shortened it to.

Hi folks

just a quickie from me.  Thanks for all the likes on 'Ed Stones' post the other day re hoping my dad is ok. Still in hospital but out of danger now and ongoing treatment now to mend him best they can.  I'm back in Redhill as am satisfied its under control down there.  Thanks again

Models are looking interesting indeed in near term and long term.  Will endeavour to post my first monthly indepth outlook later....reasons to be jolly in there for cold lovers.....and a hint I've laid a score on a white Christmas........now that ensures mild outcome!!!

BFTP

Best wishes regarding your dad.

Am I getting the right idea here - it seems to my layman's eyes that the models are downgrading the snow chances at the weekend for areas below around 300 metres altitude?

Re snow, unless we have a Dec 2010 scenario coming I wouldn't do anything else other than nowcasting.  There's some little disturbances showing up so upgrades and downgrades are likely

Thanks.  Given the marginal nature of the situation, I would have taken that approach anyway.

I don't really get what all the excitement is for us lot in the south east this weekend... yeah ok it will be nice to see some falling snow but I won't get excited about it... A good Atlantic storm like Barney the other night though? Oh yeah I loved it :)... But don't get me wrong, if the snow really starts to fall, or even better it turns into a blizzard here in the south at some point this winter I will be going crazy...lol. It will be great to get a good depth of lying snow this winter... enough so that the kids get a day off school. These days are the ones that count. ;)
