After this morning's intense rain antics, it's well and truly autumnal here with persistent strong winds and horizontal drizzle/moderate rain.

Jeez!! What a contrast 70-80 miles makes or even less than that!

Explosive conditions in south lincs at the moment with towers rapidly shooting up all over. Heading your way too!!

It is really amazing isnt it how much our country varies in very little distance sometimes!

Well see if the wind picks up shortly as those showers start to arrive and blow all this fog away. Hoping beyond hope for something later lol.

Good pics btw further up the page from you :)

Cheers mate.

Certainly looking promising for you storm wise still keeping the intensity as they trundle north. You'd never predict that looking at the current conditions you have got lol.

Meanwhile, this is heading straight for me :O

looking at NMM windspeed and direction. The main area of storms coincides with anticipated wind convergence.

We have had the same weather as Sheffield till now but it looks like this could be about to change. The storms from the south are now crossing the Humber. Some of W-most stuff has died but building on the E side and the 500Mb vectors would seem to be taking it this way.

It would be nice to get rid of this murk with a bang!

Storms missing us well to the east and dying out. The remains gracing north Sheffield and more for Rotheram The stuff to south should pass well to the west so nothing for most of sheffield unless something brews up elsewhere

Weirdly the storm to the Se of here is still showing on NW Radar as throwing out sferics but here the murk continues, although it has gone dark and begun to rain. Nevertheless I can see no lightning nor hear any thunder!

We had a spell of thunder and lightning here in the last hour. The main area of heavy rain was just to the east but we still had a good show and around 5mm from it.

There's now been more thunder here in the last few days than all of summer put together!

Certainly seemed to be very localised to the west of the city on the radar. Incredible this last 20 minutes though. Eased off now.

Did wonder if the band further south would boost up as well but it didn't so it's looking like a dry mild night to come.

After finishing work today at 2pm I headed east to intercept storm cells moving north. I had my eye on the most intense of them which was to the south of Leicester, I met it just to the SW of Melton Mowbray, near to the village of Frisby. There were just one or two flashes of lightning at first but it became more frequent for a while as it moved overhead with some intense rainfall. The clouds looked disturbed as well. I need to check back on my footage but it looked like clouds were moving in different directions into the storm cell. I then chased behind the storm northwards up the A607, turning off towards Belvoir. By this time I was getting close to storm county (Lincolnshire) and the storm became more intense.

I parked up and watched the storm over in Grantham direction and it was producing frequent flashes of lightning against a dark grey sky with the occasional flash closer. There was a lot of thunder too. I decided to keep chasing it and followed it all the way up the A1 as it continued to produce a good few flashes of lightning and occasional IC's and CG's. I chased it as far as Lincoln but by now the most intense stuff was to the east, close enough to watch but I was not underneath it and rush hour traffic prevented me from chasing it any further. To be honest, I needed to turn back anyway or I would have ended up chasing it all the way to the North sea.

Another successful day storm chasing in 2015 and considering the low likelihood of anything organised I was more than impressed :)

Just to add to supacells post above.... part of this area of storms appeared to produce a small tornado over Sleaford way east of Grantham just before 5pm. I saw the clouds dropping and as you say disturbed on my way home from work but someone has actually caught it on video posting it to torros twitter account if anyone wishes to have a look. Nice storms for September!

Yes, I have just been reading the posts and accounts elsewhere. Strange to think I was most probably chasing the storm that produced the tornado near Sleaford. Pity I didn't get to witness it!!!

I have actually seen reports of 4 possible tornadoes today - Northampton (Duston), Leamington Spa, Sleaford and Tewkesbury! There were certainly some intense storms out there.
