Just looking at the temps and it's not just really hot days that have been lacking, but just warm days as well. Currently 2015 has the fewest days over 21C and 23C since 1998, and the fewest over 20C since 1993. More could come in September of course, but for the 21C another 5 are needed to beat the next lowest, 2012. 5 days over 21C has been a big ask this summer.

The complete lack of even one 20C in May has meant that it was all down to the summer months, and for the most part they failed.

I thought I would wait this year and book a UK holiday during a settled spell during the school summer holidays.  There hasn't been one, so the tent has stayed in the garage!

Decided to cut back on every luxury now until next summer, for  a foreign holiday and a guarantee of good weather.  Unfortunately for the UK economy, that means not spending it in the UK.

Am I correct in saying, that is 3 poor summers in 8 years?  (2007, 2012, 2015).

Im not too sure where to put 2015 against other summers since 2007. It has sure been better than what 2007, 2008, 2011 and 2012 delivered round here. Probably on a par with 2009 and 2010. 2013 is the stand out year of recent summers for sure.

This summer has really been a disappointment, along with winter and spring which were also disappointing.

Thunderstorms in particular were really disappointing (excluding one near the start of July). On average we should get 10 thunder-days per year, most of them occuring in summer, but only 2 managed to kick off this summer (in Warwickshire). August was the biggest dissapointment with NO thunder observed throughout - not even the slightest rumble!

Temperatures have been pretty average, probably below overall. Started July with a short-lived hot spell and ended July with mild winter-like temperatures.

The number of overcast days have been appaling this summer. I can hardly recall a day where the sun had been out all day. June was perhaps acceptable, August has been bad though.

2007 and 2012 and to some degree 2009 were all about rain, 2010 and 2011 were all about dullness, 2008 was a combination of the two. 2015 has been most similar to 2010 here but colder, sharing the pattern of a relatively sunny June followed by a horribly dull July and August. As for rain, the total has been way behind 2007 or 2012 but the number of rain days has been pretty close. All the drizzly muck this summer has made it seem a lot wetter than the totals suggest.

If we get a cold September (as some models are suggesting) it will definitely be one of the worst extended summers; many of the 2007-12 ones were redeemed by warm sunny spells in April, May, September, October. 2015 didn't even top 20C till June 4th.

One for the books. The warmest and driest summer ever recorded here. 36 days with temperature higher than 30°C (average is 13) and 15 days with temperature higher than 35°C. Disgusting. One more summer like this and I'm moving north. Below average summers are probably a thing of the past here. The last one is from 1996.

Where are you based in the Czech Republic? Central/E Europe has had a blistering summer again this year, too hot I'd say but I'm still envious! My Mum is Czech and we have loads of relatives in Brno, they've not known a summer like it.

Poor, probably around 1-2c below average mean maxes, June and July were awful, August around average, non stop strong winds have been a pain making it feel even cooler, June and July the max temp was 14/15c a lot of the time, August more like 16/17c got above 20c around 8 times, above 25c once, sunshine amounts could have been worse, couple of decent thunderstorms though.

Eastern part near the polish borders (small town 20 km south of Ostrava). Majority of the Czech Republic, including Brno, recieved some rain two weeks ago but this region is cursed. Cold fronts from the west are not what they used to be. They rarely have any strength when they arrive and bring only colder air without rain. This started three years ago I guess. Something changed and we've been stuck in the warm southern air since then.

Looking at the temperatures across Europe today I can't think of a more fitting last day to this horribly frustrating summer.

Good riddance,

What can I say ,a desparately disappointing summer made even worse by the poor spring before it.I cannot find anything good to say about it although it has not felt as wet as the wet days suggest. The lack of real wetness is the only thing that has kept it being listed alongside 2008 and 2012.Only 4 days in the entire summer above 22 deg, ,only 16 above 20 and 50 rain/showers or drizzle have made it a shocker, even the BLIPof 31 deg on the first of july was mostly cloudy and even tried to rain. What has summed it up for me is the complete lack of any two days alike that resemble summer with the few mainly sunny days being blighted by a cool wind and not forgetting a full 25 days with a high of 15 deg or less, thats almost a third of the summer.Yes it hasn't been a 2008 or 2012 and probably rank alongside 2007,2009,2010 and 2011 but for coolness and total lack of any cluster of warm sunny days and persistant showers it could easily have been worse than the lot!

Summer here has been poor and very forgetful. I will keep it simple.

BBQ rating : 1 out of 10

Sun tan rating : 4 out of 10

Golf/tennis rating : 3 out of 10

Number of thunderstorms : 1 overhead and 2 near misses.

Number of Humid days causing migraines 0 (best thing about this summer for me)

Although it has not been overly wet or overly dull, what seems like a constant wind and the lack of any real warmth lasting longer than a day or two has made summer 2015 a poor one for me.

A high of 14.1 today seems a fitting end to summer.

Anyone have the CET value for summer, I think below the 81/10 average, which will make it 3 seasons in a row below the long term mean.

Can't wait for a 1960's type summer then all those moaning will have something to moan about, this summer was anything but cool, only a handful of coat days at most.

The 60's were a bit before my time but I have been a witness to june 1991 and the summers 1985 to 1988  which on a quick look were every bit as cool as any 60's summer.Am not too sure about your statement but 25 days here 15 degrees or less max's is hardly your average summer !

June and July, cool, wet, miserable. Days at a time without sun in some cases

http://www.weatheronline.co.uk/weather/maps/city

August though, a big improvement. Much drier, spells of many bright days in a row, some sunny all day. 26C day last weekend. Reminds me of the summers of my childhood - 'nice for the schools going back'! Not a classic (not even as good as most Julys in recent years) but enough to somewhat redeem an otherwise miserable season.

Yet another poor summer in the unprecedented run of dross since 2007. Partially redeemed by August which had above average sunshine despite being wet. June and July were disgusting except for the fortnight I was out of the country.

Temperatures were a joke. Not as far below average as 2007, 2011 and 2012 but the lack of high temperatures was ridiculous with 21C not reached during the 2nd half despite the sunny August.

Rainfall was the worst aspect. Since the run of filth began in 2007 only 2013 has been drier than average and only 2007, 2011 and 2012 were wetter than this summer.

Mean Max: 17.0C (-0.5C)

Mean Min: 9.7C (-0.4C)

Rainfall: 245.2mm (150%)

Sunshine: 486.0 hrs (97%)

I think my back garden must be on another planet to some of you lot, basic data below

Summer 2015 at Cantley

June

Mean T=15.4 (15.7)

Avge Max=21.1 (20.4)

Absolute Max=31.8

Rain=36.8=about 10mm below 18 year average

General=14 days over 21C and 4 days over 25C

July

Mean T=17.4 (17.5)

Avge Max=22.6 (22.1)

Absolute Max=34.8 is the highest in any month in 18 years. Only beaten once in this area in over 75 years.

Rain=47.2mm= just a touch above average

General=two quite warm spells and 7 days, early in the month over 25C and 18 days over 21C

August

Mean T=17.6 (17.5)

Avge Max=22.6 (22.3)

Absolute Max=28.8 with 23 days over 21C and 8 days over 25C

Rain=91.8mm= wettest August in 18 years data and more than half in the last 12 days

General=warmer start than finish but not a bad month in spite of the rain total.

Overall summer

Mean=16.8

Avge max=22.1

Days over 25C=19

Days over 21C=70

Just 3 storms

Overall I would judge summer here, my back garden, as not bad, fairly warm, a few really hot days and a decent amount of sunshine although I have no figures to back up this comment

Compared to 2014 it is some 0.6C down on the Mean 0.2C on the average max

I thought you of all people knew Doncaster was the warmest place in the north, being east of the pennines  and away from the east coast it is certainly another world from here!
