At this present time I think we could see a settled and cool month with high pressure taking up residences to the west of the UK.

Of course the high could shift slowly eastwards during the month to offer a much warmer set up, but at the moment I am unconvinced of this.

I believe we are going into a more southerly focused jet so cooler than we would expect and solar activity is falling away rapidly which will only cement this so 12.8 please

When was the last time we were below 13C to the 10th.

 

1992 was 12.6C to the 12th. But we haven't even had a first 10 days below 14C since 1994 either (13.4C), but we've had 3 years over 17C by the 10th (2005, 2004 and 1999).

 

EDIT: To put that into another perspective, in the last 20 years, on 3 occasions the September CET has been at least 2C above the rolling average to the 10th, but not once has it been more than 0.8C below average to the 10th.

Will go out on a limb and say 12.4 C, noting that GFS continually has been underestimating the power of the cold Atlantic to downgrade future warmings.
