Playing it safe this month and going near average - the theme of the year so far, I will say 15.7 degrees, slightly below average, a rather non-descript sort of a month ending a very non-descript sort of summer apart from the anomaly that was the 1 July.

16.4C. Currently it looks like August will be average to below average, but I'm sticking with the prevailing theme of 2015 - very, very average. We all know not to get too hung up on what the models are showing before a month has even started, as we learnt all too well in June/July.

Poor summer so far for heat mainly and I can't see august being any different hope im wrong though. For August I'm going 15.5c. thanks.

14.5 after massive downward correction.

That'll be the coldest since 1986!  Although only just beating 1993.  It will be very remarkable if we get another sub 15C August this year.  The last time we had 2 consecutive sub 15C Augusts was 1985-1986.

My guesses have been way off the last few months. However, I feel August will probably continue the general trend of 2015 of not deviating too far from average temperature wise. My guess is 16.2C.

EDIT: I would like to amend this to 15.8C please.

15.9 for me. Whilst a near average figure might apply for the CET, if there were an equivalent series for Northern scotland and Northern Ireland, a much greater departure from the average (maybe a 2* negative anomaly) is more likely IMHO, given the state of Atlantic SST's.

Just working on the table of forecasts which I will post at midnight in the competition thread. So far, there are 61 entries (excluding the one that was sub 4 degrees) and the median is 16.0 C ... the unused numbers at this point (between extremes of 14 and 20) include these:

18.6 to 19.9

17.8 to 18.4

17.4 to 17.6

17.0

16.6

14.8

14.6

14.1 to 14.3

Watch for the full report shortly after midnight.
