No snow warnings for the region tomorrow the hills south of Edinburgh could see as much as 20cm of snow

For Sunday we do have a warning in place until mid-day though not all the region is covered by this warning

Issued at:1148 on Fri 12 Feb 2016

Valid from:0005 on Sun 14 Feb 2016

Valid to:1200 on Sun 14 Feb 2016

Further outbreaks of sleet and snow are expected through Saturday night and Sunday morning, with some heavy snow likely at times, especially over higher routes. Please be aware of difficult travelling conditions and the risk of some disruption to transport. There remains some uncertainty in the details and this warning will be updated as required.

Chief Forecaster's assessment

A front will continue to move gradually southwards on Saturday night and Sunday morning. Further accumulations of snow are expected over southeastern Scotland with this snow extending into parts of northeast England during Sunday morning. A further 2 to 4 cm of snow is possible at lower levels, mainly away from the immediate coastal strip, with 5 to 10 cm above 200 m and perhaps as much as 15 cm on the highest routes above 300 m.

Covers

Gateshead, Newcastle upon Tyne, North Tyneside, Northumberland, Durham, South Tyneside, Sunderland

Some nice low dewpoints spreading across the region from late Saturday onwards which will be a big help in getting snow down to low levels.

I'm quite optimistic about this cold snap now.:)

Down here in Darlo we have some good sunny spells and its dry just goes to show what difference 20 miles or so makes

Looking at the radar I would be expecting Northumberland and Tyne and Wear to have had a fair few snow showers overnight and this morning with lots more to come - surprised no reports...

Hoping we might see a few showers penetrate across the Pennines our way later, temps, dewpoints favourable for low level snow here.

Probably they are a wintry mix of sleet/rain and most levels, especially near the coasts... hence not many people on here so far.

I expect it will be the overnight period when the showers turn more to snow, wherever they may be lol

I think once winds back more Northerly then that will be the best chance for lower levels to recieve snowfall, would not be surprised come Monday morning, some areas of the NE receive a covering of snow(probably no great amounts but better than nothing).

Updated warning for tomorrow has removed more areas

Issued at:1038 on Sat 13 Feb 2016

Valid from:0005 on Sun 14 Feb 2016

Valid to:1200 on Sun 14 Feb 2016

Showers of sleet and snow are likely during Saturday night and Sunday morning, leading to further accumulations of 2-5 cm of snow in places, with ice an additional hazard, particularly where skies clear after showers during Saturday. Please be aware of the potential for difficult travelling conditions.

Chief Forecaster's assessment

A more persistent area of rain, sleet and snow over southern parts of Scotland and parts of northern England will clear from the north during Saturday evening, but leaving behind some sleet and snow showers in places and an increasing risk of ice forming on untreated surfaces. Meanwhile, a cold northeasterly flow will become established across much of Scotland with sleet and snow showers affecting areas exposed to the northeast. During Sunday morning, these showers will become more frequent over the far north of Scotland and the Northern Isles.

Covers

Northumberland, Durham, Gateshead, Newcastle upon Tyne

Colder uppers not due on our region until after midnight, Dew points will continue to drop until monday, i think a dusting is not out of the question even at sea level.

Signs of colder air already here with hail falling instead off drizzle.
