Surprised by the amount of storms mentioned on the lunchtime BBC news.

Mentioned tonight's storms. A batch of 'sporadic' thunderstorms for Central/Eastern England tommorrow, a bright start friday before a band of Thunderstorms moves in from the SW...then the chap highlighted the chance for another outbreak of storms on Sunday... that's what we like to hear!

Radar got it wrong, showed a moderate shower coming through here, when all that happened was a few splodges. Sun's back out now and the skies are dark to the north. We are the breeding ground again today...when will the west breed for us here. I can see quite a widespread array of storms from Bournemouth north to about Manchester and then directly north anywhere from there today. Sadly Staffs needed to be 100 miles further north. Same old, same old.

The radar didn't get it wrong bud. Your shower was elevated in nature thus most of the precipitation evaporated on the way down....

Down here on the south east coast we have some stronger sunshine as the elevated detritus moves north. Temp's around 27c and rising, and very humid

Here in Camden there's nothing of note. Apart from its getting hotter as the bloody cloud is getting burnt off!

This might be good for storms, but not for me. After 5 it can all kick off :D

Elevated thunder here, very threatening skies to the south along with a huge ominous plume of black smoke, big fire somewhere to my south.

Its also unbearably warm with a hot breeze!

That explains that, lots of dark clouds headed north now. That cell will become quite strong I'd imagine.

Couldn't have picked a better time for a family holiday huh?

That sounds like heaven. :) Hope they're onto something.

Earlier storms were too far east, now they're too far west, and still stuck with rubbish cloud lol. How... brilliant.

Just a word of warning for anyone thinking of travelling north to chase - M1 is shut both ways at junction 28 - 29 due to a lorry fire

That would explain the smoke I can see to the south

Quite confused, two fronts are supposed to push from the SW tonight, one bringing thunderstorms to the south east, but what about the second cold front from the west, will that just bring general rain?

Are the storms in Derbyshire/Notts still the "crapvection" or are they the start of the forecast bad weather?

Skies gradually darkening to the south of Leeds.  Feels very close outside.

Those two cells around you are really starting to kick out a large amount of lightning, not sure if it's the detector playing up, but producing in sporadic clusters of multiple strikes.

Just comparing the NMM for 2pm and the current radar.

NMM has under-cooked it a tad!

The storms in the center of England are really going for it, now and intensifying on each radar grab... the one south east of Buxton one if more focused in terms of of the size of the storm,

the other one stretches over a wider area (alfreton north to Sheffield, to the east Chesterfield and Mansfield)...

both look good though
