atlantic Tropical Storm Bill

The second tropical storm of the 2015 Atlantic season has formed in the Gulf of Mexico, just offshore from Texas. Winds are at 45kts Bill is a fairly broad system and is not expected to strengthen significantly before landfall, which should occur in around 12hrs time. The primary threat from Bill will be heavy rainfall.

One thing is for sure - this area does not need precip totals as forecast - the scale is in inches!!

Bill peaked at 50kts before landfall on Texas. Bill has remained well organised a long way inland and has dumped large amounts of rain over Texas and now Oklahoma. The depression appears now to be well on the way to being extratropical as it moves northeastwards.

Bill is still a tropical depression this morning as it reaches the state of Kentucky. Bill still retains some moderately deep convection near the centre. The system has been overland for 3 days, yet still remains a well organised, tropical system. This may be, in part, due to the fact that Bill hs been moving over low lying land that has been saturated by heavy rainfall. Much the same happened with Tropical Storm Erin in 2007, which actually became a tropical storm again inland.
