Glastonbury Festival 24th-28th June 2015

J10

It seems a few of the other forecasts are showing more persistent rain on the weekend, it seems when Jackone predicts better conditions all the other forecasts change and vice versa! I hope they're behind the curve!

Perhaps I should forecast a washout then!!!

This year has been a nightmare in terms of forecasting, the truth is next weekend (or more especially Sunday) still hasn't settled down.

I've arrived and pitched up. It's all looking pretty good onsite :)

Grabbed a few photos on my phone on the way in - sorry they're not much cop! These are mostly facing south, where the clouds are. Going to go for a wander in a bit and will try to take some better ones from higher up.

Heard there was heavy rain overnight but it was welcome because the site was getting a bit dusty yesterday. There's light mud wherever the heavy vehicle traffic is, as you'd expect, but otherwise it's totally okay. Ground *slightly* damp to touch but not what you'd call wet - tent peg-friendly basically. Lovely sun - it's pretty warm actually - and a fair old wind driving patchy clouds past the vale at a fair old lick. There's a band including a few dark clouds off to the south but it's not coming overhead. Assuming no more rain the site will dry up this afternoon by the look of it.

Ta Muchly

Precip charts with the current model predictions are useless, keep checking the day to day forecasts

No worries :) Thanks for that forecast - sounding really positive.

The afternoon continued fine with wind keeping it from feeling too hot. 9pm now and the wind has settled into a light breeze and all the clouds have disappeared. All the tracks have dried out with only little patches of mud anywhere. You can sit on the grass.

Couple of photos from high on the north of the site near the farmhouse, looking south towards the stone circle and over the Pyramid towards the tor. Another couple from near West Holts and Williams Green showing the ground. It's all pretty lovely :)

Glorious day in the Pilton area. Blue skies and a smattering of cloud. Sun cream definitely required if tomorrow is anything like this.

All the forecasts now appear to have synchronised on your showers Friday and Sunday reading of it J10. Lovely stuff.

Lovely conditions for a sturdy erection. Ground very tent peg friendly. Looking forward to a perfect festival.

I'm sure this has been suggested in previous years, but we should start a crowdfunder to fix the J-man a ticket next year for all the hard work!

The forecast for Friday always did have some showery bits in it. Pulses of heavier rain which were moving Cornwall to Wales, are now showing a  bit further SE, so clipping NW Somerset up Bristol Channel am/lunchtime, don't want those to come any closer to eastern Somerset

A band of rain about to hit the site looking at the radar.. Might get a little more muddy yet.

rain was drizzle like in nature ,falling on site that was back to dust from the 2 hours of heavy rain that fell on Friday ,all in all a relatively mud free festival :)..

It would be interesting to find a figure for the actual amount of rainfall over the festival in comparison to the models just before. I'd estimate it to be some way more than 1-3mm, the site did get quite muddy in prone areas for a time after the Friday rainfall, but nothing like the mud baths of 2005 or 2007.

Does anyone know where the nearest weather station with historical data is?

Can't answer the above question, but very belatedly I just want to report back.

We were onsite Sunday 21st June to Tuesday 30th June inclusive -- as crew, we arrive early and leave late.

We escaped very lightly by comparison to the more serious amounts of rain threatened on some model output/forecasts immediately before we left.

The rain on the night of Sunday 21st until about 11 am Monday 22nd, was very light -- often just drizzly and intermittant. With just crew onsite at that stage, and probably no more than 50% to 60% of them, very little ground damage was done. Only little bits of mud, which soon dried up once the same came out Monday afternoon.

Tuesday 23rd to Thursday 25th were completely dry and mostly warm and sunny. Not debilitatingly hot either -- generally around 21C to 23C max temperatures, I'd guess. Great for all the public arriving on the Wednesday.

The sometimes heavy showers of Friday 26th didn't do serious amounts of ground damage -- surprisingly, given that this was round the time when the maximum number of people were on site, and moving around most. There was some mud, but not by any measure a mudbath.

Towards the end of Friday afternoon/early evening, the sun emerged again, leading into Saturday 27th which was a gorgeous day -- once again warm(er) and sunny.

The rain of Sunday 28th was lighter than Friday's -- again, like the previous Monday/Sunday, light and intermittant, with only trivial amounts of mud coming up. And by early afternoon, we started to experience warm sunshine again (very soon drying everything up).

Monday 29th and especially Tuesday 30th were hot and sunny!

So overall, I'd give the whole shebang  7 out of 10 for good weather and lack of rain/mud.

Oh yes -- we experienced some great music, sights, walkabouts, food and cider and partied a lot of the time!!

We loved having our campervan for the first time (we'd only bought it on Easter Saturday) and big thanks to our crew bosses for sourcing us an onsite vehicle pass. Yay!

Our shifts also went very well, with the sad exception of one woman at out Info Stall who collapsed in the strong, warm (almost hot) sunshine (23C to 24C?) on Saturday afternoon. Help was swiftly called though, and she was looked after firstly by my supervisors and then by paramedics who were brilliant.

Looks very much like we'll be back next year, if nice and encouraging words from our bosses are anything to go by.

2016 will be our 20th Glastonbury each. Let's go for another one like this year weatherwise, but without the rain and mud altogether. Not impossible!
