The minimum today is 8.8C while maxima look like reaching the mid 14s, so remaining on 11.1C on tomorrows update,

After that, the 06z GFS has the CET at:

11.1C to the 29th (10.2)

11.0C to the 30th (9.9)

11.0C to the 31st (11.6)

Somewhere between 10.9C and 11.1C before corrections, and 10.5C to 11.1C after corrections is likely. So below all recent 30 year averages and possibly over 1C below the 81-10 average (11.7C).

Expecting a downward adjustment, good bet finish of 10.8 degrees, chance of 10.7 degrees. Maxima have been consistently below average, whilst minima have been close to average thanks to lots of cloud and wind in the main, clearer nights and we could have been looking at a notably cooler than average month.

Suspect we will hold at 11.0 degrees today, though could nudge down to 10.9 degrees, and with expected downward adjustments, a finish of 10.7 or 10.8 degrees most likely. However, it will mask what has been a much colder than average month max temp wise in the NW quarter of the country, probably the greatest deviation since the cold May of 1996 here.

Every month this year so far has been at least 1.0C cooler than their predecessors last year.

An incredibly average year so far. No month more than 0.9C different from the 1981-2010 average since November.

At 10.8C May 2015 is only the 3rd May to finish below 11C post 1996 along with 2010 (10.7C) and 2013 (10.2C).  In between 1996 and 2010 the coldest May was 2005's balmy 11.4C! - still 0.2C above the 1961-1990 average!  Also May 2015 is only the 1st month to finish below all post 1960 30 year averages post August 2014 and so far the only cool month of 2015.

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall.
