The anomaly charts this evening don't come anywhere near a clear cut evolution post T144.

At T168 we still have the trough N of the UK, west Atlantic, ridge east from Greenland with the HP SW Europe so it's a balancing act how much the ridging from the latter will affect the UK.

Moving on to T240 the trough to the north and the Greenland ridge are no more. The latter replaced by the trough in the western Atlantic orientated SE with the European HP ridging NE so still this balancing act between the air masses. Impossible to call at this stage particularly as the GEFS in the ext period has the trough winning and the ECM doesn't.

The Ecm 12z shows very warm weather for the south and east later in the run, After reading comments like ..oh dear, summer is on hold I was expecting to see cold unsettled charts, instead I see 564 dam thicknesses into the south and very summery temperatures.

Yes its not summer yet... and therefore not appropriate to say things such as summer is on hold... Indeed in my opinion we have a good 6 weeks or so yet until summer gets into full gear.. Early May is the equivalent of early November in the seasons, hardly do we ever see posts referring to early Nov as winter...

In the meantime can we all refer to the current period as 'spring'... and stick to the seasons., some posters seem to discard the shoulder spring and autumn seasons, very annoyingly...
