Upgrade or downgrade, we'll have a much better idea of what's in store by Tuesday so until then we should just enjoy the potential.

After all we are a million miles away from where we were this time last year.

They're just computer-generated forecasts. Leave it until Tuesday night or Wednesday before you take it to heart... and even then they're not 100% accurate.

I think most of the NW will see falling snow through Wednesday/Thursday some being luckier than others as often is the case, it looks like those colder uppers will get mixed out for 12-24 hours with a threat of rain/sleet thereafter before the next even colder but potentially drier cold shot hits us.

I'd prefer it to say -1 and snow. Where do they get the raw data from? GFS?

It might be the GFS, I'm not too sure.

But if you're being forecasted rain instead of snow, then you know you can't be dissappointed, because you weren't expecting snow and if it does snow instead, you'll be pleasantly suprised. If you're forecasted snow, then you can be highly dissappointed because you were expecting it and it may fall as rain instead... :)

I wouldn't worry too much about specifics of the countryfile/beeb forecasts at the min. 3+ days is a long way away when snow is involved, at least the trend is still looking good.

Most of us nutters will still prob still be doing this on wed night...

I've lost count the number of times forecast snow has ended up being, at best sleet or usually rain so I'll be realistic and say I'll take what I get.

I'll be honest though and say that I will be disappointed if this region misses out while other parts of the country get plastered although that outcome is unlikely.

I know I hope we get something that last more than 5 mins for once. More optimistic this time.

This thread is like last week all over again.

I've looked at the upper air profile and I'm afraid there's a very short opportunity of snowfall when a brief pool of -8 uppers push in. But for the most part it looks wintry not snowy.

Accumulations reserved for 200m asl, temporary accumulations to low ground though mostly transient in nature. Even then well inland perhaps Manchester area could see a covering.

I think its the UKMO to be honest, they pay for the Met Office full dataset so I doubt they would use a much inferior one, although I can see why people might think this TBH, many a time I see even the Met Office map follow GFS runs, its just a quirk though I think.

Hardly.

My location is completely influenced by the north westerly airflow where even here struggled to see more than temporary dustings in the last pm disaster. Despite multiple heavy snow showers the snow kept melting inbetween.

And the met office warning clearly states away from windward costal districts.

The reality is if the met office warning is correct these ares are at risk.

post-8968-0-61743700-1422220877_thumb.jp

I'd be interested to know how many of you are actually in the red zone? Considering cheshire isn't even in any warning zone so no the met office aren't seeing it your way.
