Although February is still just over a week away, going to take a risk and go for 3.7*C.

0.0C please I think we are going to get a synoptic not seen in many years... February will be bitter, and almost relentless easing into March. I see lows forming in cold air resulting in snow storms. It will be a month characterised by snow, gales & disruption. I do not see it being extraordinarily cold however the windchill will be brutal - it will persist and anchor down, with troughs & disturbances in abundance delivering snow for many.

I might as well go out with a bang, it stands out more... perhaps for the wrong reasons - but its not going to kill me to have a bit of fun  I totally flopped up January with my -0.7 CET figure so I am collecting myself.

With my very conservative 0.0C. Haha, back in January I went for a bitterly cold Feb. Using what is in front of me there's a high likelihood February will be below average, by how much? a lot hopefully.

Don't want to jinx it but if the current output (trop and strat) continues for the next 6 days, I could be making my lowest guess for a monthly CET ever.

I think sub zero is a bit far fetched but it might not be a million miles away.

Just remember that only 1991 at 1.5 deg is the only month in 29 years that has gone below 2 deg

Yes and given the Met Office wording, I would be very cautious about a very low CET, going on output / background signals I would say very cold, however, for the MO to change their wording, I would suggest the GLOSEA5 is now less bullish about blocking, It cant be the ECM32 that's downgraded as there hasn't been a run since Ian's last update on Friday.

Over the last 18 years, the coldest February we've had has not been as cold as the coldest December, January or March. It's time for February to step up to the winter plate.

I'm going for 1.7c

I'm jumping ship! Feels like we are constantly going to end up on the wrong side of a fine balance... I'm going for 4.8c now with some very mild, springlike days towards the end of the month counteracting brief cold, but not severely so, spells

Dammit! Although I think the upgrades were waitng for me to jump ship on my original cold guess and I'm not changing back again for fear of changing what's looking very very nice atm :) #TakingOneForTheTeam
