Evening!

My awesome wife bought me the Davis Vantage Vue station for Christmas. (Just a bit chuffed!!). Iv'e finally got it set up today. It's working great but I'm wondering how to set up getting my readings online. Iv'e noticed you can do it through Davis website but it's $30 to subscribe (And requires the console to be connected to my laptop). I was slightly disappointed at misreading the box on the data logger as i thought the package included a IP data logger to connect to my router. Iv'e since found out that would cost me £300!!

She's spent loads on this station and I'm worried she'll go mad if I start spending more money!

Do you guys have any tips or tricks to help me out. I don't like the idea of having my laptop connected to the USB wire of the console and have it on all the time. That's the only solution I can think of at the moment.

I spend a lot of time from home and like the idea of being able to see what the conditions are like at home which is why i want a constant data connection.

Any ideas or input would be much appreciated!!

Cheers

Paul.

The easiest way is to become a Wunderground contributor. Which software are you using on your PC? Weather Display will set you up as a Wunderground weather station and then you can view online, via an app on an iPhone etc. If you need more details, just let me know. You will need to keep a computer connected though, unless you want to go down the IP logger route. I would suggest a cheap, second-hand laptop or bare bones PC to leave connected. For what you need this would be the cheapest option I guess.

How about something small and cheap like the Raspberry PI?

I run mine on an old samsung netbook (NC10)
It's been on that for three years and with screen off I doubt it uses 10w - and there's no buzzing or lights to speak of.
You also have a graceful shutdown in the event of power cuts.
If I want it tidy(ish) the console can sit on the closed netbook.

The simplest way to get a half decent page online is wunderground.
It can be set up with the davis weatherlink or cumulus and would look like this..
http://www.wunderground.com/personal-weather-station/dashboard?ID=INORTHYO13
You don't have to upload continuously, it should fill in any gaps when you reconnect

Hi, I also got the Vue for Chrimbo, I use meteobridge, bit like a Pi, uploads to multiple providers (a underground etc) it just sits by my vue console, great bit of kit.
