Interesting weather watching this weekend lets hope the North wind can generate some showers as it comes down across a fairley warm irish sea  B3p8lDgIMAABLlq.jpg

We then move on to early next week ,looks like we set for a wintry outlook cold with wintry showers becoming more wintry as the week progresses  with a good chance of a covering of snow over Wales . Much, better than the constant wet  weather we had last winter, this is Tuesday map next week.h500slp.png

Can never understand Meto. Our area (nr llangollen) currently 1degree, but if you look for previous day/night temps it whizzes you up to Hawarden - 30 plus miles away near coastline, which currently showing us positively basking in heat at 4 degrees... :(

No frost here is morning, no sun either, back to misty Brigadoon.

In spite of the overcast skies this morning, still a fine hoar frost and currently -1.9c.

Most thermometers measure temperature where people live, and people tend to build stuff that warms the local environment around the thermometer.

Called the urban heat island (UHI) effect, most of the warming occurs long before the thermometer site actually becomes “urbanâ€. For instance, if you compare neighboring thermometers around the world, and also compare their population densities (as a rough indication of UHI influence), it can be easily demonstrated that substantial average UHI warming occurs even at low population densities, about ~1 deg. F at only 10 persons per sq. km!

This effect, which has been studied and published for many decades, has not been adequately addressed in the global temperature datasets, partly because there is no good way to apply it to individual thermometer sites.

I don't know If I want it to snow tonight after confident saying it wouldn't at the start of the week.

I think I should be OK, more chance for the weekend perhaps (of a flake or 2, nothing more than that at this stage.

Sunday more especially cold enough for snow showers even though it will be a westerly, hills mainly.

Looks like a longer cold snap to what was shown of 2 days, may see sleet today.

As for air frost can`t see that happening yet, extreme frost hollows don`t count.

There's been widespread air frost across West Wales most nights this week!

14 air frost here so far since the start of October, we are a cold spot but all around this area seems to get a lot of frost. Even the coast had shade frost all day on Wednesday, so certainly not just 'extreme frost hollows' getting air frosts in West Wales :)

We actually get frost at the drop of a hat, all it takes is a calm, clear evening and it readily forms from November til April!

Could be a bit yes Keith, several marginal showery situations over the coming week, as often is the case, with wintriness generally confined to high ground, say above 300m.

The Met Office view is

Rain clearing southeastwards Sunday. Then becoming colder, windier, and showery. Showers mainly in the north/west, turning wintry over hills. Showers easing Monday and becoming briefly dry. Turning unsettled Tuesday.

-----------------------------------

Personally given the forecasted temps of sub -5c at 850HPA, close to -6c generally and with winds from the W to NW, I think some wintriness is possible a bit more widely that that perhaps with full snow showers restricted to higher ground.

But as ever time will tell.
