A new thread to bring us up to date and take us through Autumn moving ever closer to Winter! The first batch of wet & windy weather has already made it's presence felt over the last 24 hours, the beginning of next week is also looking very wet and very windy especially for the N&W of the UK.

Discuss the potential for any stormy weather which may affect the UK. Post charts & analysis, keep us up to date with reports of whats happening in your local area and how the bad weather is affecting you.

Lets keep it civil, stay on topic and enjoy!

I wonder what the rest of Autumn has in store for us....

Some very strong south to south easterly winds moving in to the west during the early hours of Monday morning with gusts around 60-70mph and perhaps even higher for the Western Isles with a risk of storm force winds, accompanied by some heavy rainfall.

Its looking pretty bad for the west, lets hope I get some of it!! My second favourite thing in the weather world, snow is first of course. :) I'm wondering whether this is the start of another stormy Autumn/Winter period??

Hmmm, Monday looking slightly worrying. Trees in leaf and now wet ground and nearly 60 mph winds sounds pretty dangerous. I think the 60 mph wind gusts will keep to the coasts here, probably here I will record near 50 mph so it shouldn't be too bad hopefully. What are other people's guesses for SW England?

Slight downgrade of max wind gusts on the GFS 12z for the SW, I'm waiting for the 12z NMM to come out to see what that makes of it all.

Wind warnings out from the met office for the far west and Scotland on Monday and Tuesday (northern Scotland only), Northern Ireland has a warning for heavy rain on Monday

Rain

Issued at: 1118 on Sat 4 Oct 2014

Valid from: 0000 on Mon 6 Oct 2014

Valid to: 0800 on Mon 6 Oct 2014

An area of heavy rain accompanied by strong winds will move eastwards across Northern Ireland during Sunday night and Monday morning. The public should be aware of the risk of surface water flooding and some disruption to travel, especially where drainage is reduced by fallen leaves.

Chief Forecaster's assessment

An area of low pressure will develop just to the northwest of Ireland on Sunday night as warm air from the south and cold air from the north collide. This will push a band of heavy rain across Northern Ireland during Sunday night and Monday morning with the largest accumulations over the eastern counties. 20-30 mm may fall in a short period of time with around 50 mm possible over the Mourne and Antrim mountains higher ground leading to standing water and surface water flooding in places. This may be exacerbated by windblown debris reducing drainage.

Wind 1

Issued at: 1206 on Sat 4 Oct 2014

Valid from: 0000 on Mon 6 Oct 2014

Valid to: 1200 on Mon 6 Oct 2014

Strong winds, accompanied by heavy rain, will move westwards across the UK on Monday. Gales or even severe gales are likely around exposed coasts and high ground in the west and north on Monday morning. The public should be aware of the potential for travel disruption from the strong winds as well as standing water on the roads and reduced visibility from spray and driving rain.

Chief Forecaster's assessment

An area of low pressure will develop just to the northwest of Ireland on Sunday night as warm air from the south and cold air from the north collide. As this develops winds will increase leading to gusts of 60-70 mph around exposed coasts and hills of Wales, northwest England, eastern parts of Northern Ireland, western and northern parts of Scotland. Gusts of 50-60 mph are also expected in the SW of England. As the system moves eastwards across the UK on Monday the winds will ease away though a further pulse of 60-70 mph gusts is possible over the northeast of Scotland. Given the very strong winds, relatively early seasonal occurrence and their coincidence with Mondays rush hour some disruption to travel is likely.

Wind 2 Far north of Scotland

Issued at: 1058 on Sat 4 Oct 2014

Valid from: 2100 on Mon 6 Oct 2014

Valid to: 2345 on Tue 7 Oct 2014

Easterly to southeasterly winds will reach severe gale force from late Monday evening and will last through Tuesday, before easing on Tuesday night. Gusts of around 65-75mph are expected, accompanied by persistent and at times heavy rain, while large waves may cause spray and over-topping on exposed coastlines. The public should be aware of the risk of disruption to transport, especially to ferry crossings.

Chief Forecaster's assessment

An Atlantic depression and associated active fronts will cross Scotland on Monday becoming slow moving near the Northern Isles on Monday night and Tuesday. On the northeastern flank of this depression the southeasterly winds will strengthen to severe gale force, these winds tending to become more easterly during Tuesday, before easing on Tuesday evening.

This is how the NMM6 sees the potential wind gusts overnight Sunday into Monday, looks like a wild night coming up for some of us!

We hit 70 mph on Thursday let's see what this brings

Looks like the winds could be slightly higher than Thursdays system, I reckon you could be seeing gusts 70-75mph in your location and 60-70mph through the Irish Sea. Lets see what happens...

Wind was really strong about 2 hours ago, now there's nothing. Definitely the calm before the storm.

Getting pretty breezy outside now. Nothing much yet... Could be one hell of a hoolie later tonight though, pretty unseasonable for early October.

Not expecting it to get going until midnight, would expect 45mph gusts here tonight, perhaps 50mph.
