Regard the post above, only month not to feature is May. Long overdue a warm or dry or wet or cold May. Its been a very topsy turvy month in recent years with no overall pattern dominating.

Actually, the main record for October 2014 is that it saw the warmest second half on record since at least 1772.  The first half of October 2014 was not that remarkably warm with 11.8, compared to say 14.7 for the first halves of Octobers 1995 and 2011.  It was the record second half of October (13.2) that put Oct 2014 alongside the ten warmest Octobers on record.  The previous warmest second half of October on record was 13.08 in 2005.  For the first half, the record is 15.1 in 1921.  So the first half of Oct 2011 was not far off a record first half.

I do not think that Sept 2014 was far off a top ten warm September, it was at least amongst the 20 warmest Septembers ever.

What are the top 10 sunniest January`s.

We`re getting extremes of all kinds which to me is an exciting period to be living in now as the summer of 2007 showed.

So it looks like the sunniest winter on record for 2014-15

All the more remarkable that it followed the wettest on record.

April 2015 the driest on record just beats 2007 here, and that was the second driest I recorded.

So in the last few years april has broke many records whether for the heaviest lying snow 2 years ago to the hottest 2007 to the wettest just 3 years ago. :bomb:

Its been a dry month for whole but with regional contrasts. I think Scotland ended up with about 2/3rds normal rainfall, the SE only about a third. April traditionally is one of the driest months of the year, often the driest in the west.

May though is going to get off to a wet start so odds of the driest May on record already look very very slim..

Taking the warmest of each month in the above period comes to a 12 month period with a CET of 12.11C

And the coolest comes to 8.03C

Taking the wettest of each month the 12 month total comes to 1741.1mm

And the driest comes to 411.5mm

If we start from 1st January 2006, so in the last 8 years, here are some amazing stats that have occurred that have either broken or got in the top 10 of long standing records such as the CET, rainfall series. I may have missed out one or two and it doesn't include such things as the highest maximum ever recorded in October etc.

CET Seasons

4th Warmest winter: 2006-07

Warmest Spring: 2011

3rd warmest spring: 2007

5th warmest summer: 2006

10th warmest autumn: 2009

Other notables

Coldest winter since 1978-79

Coldest spring since 1962

Coolest summer since 1988

Warmest July: 2006

10th warmest July: 2013

Warmest September: 2006

3rd warmest October: 2006

8th warmest October: 2011

10th warmest October: 2013

10th warmest October: 2014

2nd warmest November: 2011

9th warmest November: 2009

7th wettest December: 2012

Sunshine

2nd sunniest winter: 2008

2nd sunniest spring 2011

5th sunniest winter: 2012

3rd dullest summer: 2012

Sunniest February: 2008

2nd sunniest March: 2012

Sunniest April: 2011

3rd sunniest April: 2007

Sunniest July: 2006

Sunniest November: 2006

2nd sunniest December: 2008

4th sunniest December: 2009

2nd dullest June: 2012

2nd dullest August: 2008

That period is 97 months

If my calculations are right, I reckon about 1 in 5 months have been in the top 10 for one or more reasons.

These are long standing records, CET goes back to 1659, rainfall series to 1772

The  period which I set as starting on 1st January 2006 completes a decade at the end of this year and it is going to end this decadal period with the one of most remarkabke months of them all!
