As you can see, things were marginal and wet at around 14:00 this afternoon:

Then came this beast of a snow shower at 15:30!

There's a good 3 inches of snow on the lawn now and I can't see it melting until the rain, sleet and snow mix arrives tomorrow. I love the North Sea! biggrin.png

P.S. sorry about the poor quality!

You did well leaving when you did - that snowstorm this evening dumped 4cm in 30 minutes, and everything just came to a standstill, not helped by everyone rushing to get home from work! The snow this morning kept thawing slightly in between the showers, except from on the grass, so hopefully getting home wasn't too bad for you.

Once i got past Durham, i did not see a single flake.

Good pictures. Having lived in Newcastle for a number of years inbetween 1996 and 2008, I remember vividly seeing the sky turn dark from the north in such set ups as we had today and then the heaven's opening with heavy big snowflakes quickly covering everything. Tyne and Wear always does very well in unstable northerlies especially if they have a slight NNE tilt as they did today. Less unstable northerlies can send cloud and showers along the coast only.

I'm always a bit jealous of the NE in northerly set ups as Cumbria usually stays bone dry - still northerly airstreams are the best for walking in the Lake District, perfect visibility with the promise of hard frosty ground which makes 'boggy' ground a joy, and this year the ground is exceptionally wet. If there is a decent snow cover even better.

Thanks - I'm sure the gorgeous scenery in the Lakes more than makes up for the handful of snowy days you miss each year!

I'm sure it doesn't. Can you throw a "scenery" ball? Can you experience the joy of measuring the depth of the "scenery" and scraping the "scenery" off your car windscreen? Can you build a "scenery" man? The answer is no.
