Where is the cold front right now. Is the "zone of nothing" in the SW and Wales where its passed?

Wow, just seen BBC weather, looking like a threat of a possible MCS pushing NW out of NE France/Belgium tomorrow night ! This is getting interesting now :)

Liking the sound of that but I will be too far NE for any effect I reckon. Did they show any graphics?

Yeah they did, big bright yellow echoes right across East Anglia, then travelling up the east coast, signs of it stalling across Scot Borders/Tyneside i think, if it goes to plan! I wouldn't rule it out by any means, put it that way !

There is no real energy though for friday (only stuff I see would be from the Midlands southwards) More likely it will be a torrential band of rain indeed but maybe not thundery

Fridays rain will probably be just rain I think but possibly very heavy rain. I would not expect much Thundery weather from that, probably dying over the N Sea.

In that case leave it down in France!

Actually updated today at 15.08 for NE England for Friday to Saturday so they must be seeing something: Unsettled with showers or longer spells of rain, some heavy and thundery. Prolonged heavy rain during Friday and Saturday brings a risk of localised flooding.

It looks like it will be once it reaches the northern counties. I'd say there's likely to be a few embedded storms overnight in that thing though as it pushes across EA. Might just be sounding a bit over optimistic here! I'm hoping for all the best for everyone though.

I think my mood today could spontaneously produce some thunder!

Nothing happening over this way as usual, it is very humid out there, but no storms in the weather as far as I can see.

Cold front looks to be lying across more western areas, with the trough ahead of it over scotland/eastern england.

Just been on a mini chase but other than some nice cloudscapes did not catch any storms.

Aside from the SE of Scotland these storms are killing themselves off as soon as they get started, which is to be expected as you can actually see the towers rising vertically right up to there tops. There is no separation of downdraft/updraft. Tomorrow may be a little better with 30-40 kts of deep layer shear being put into the mix. This is easily enough to allow organisation of storms and keep them going for long periods of time.

Regarding the SE of Scotland and why the storms are organising there - it may have something to do with a line of wind convergence that has been showing on the models as below (check out the Edinburgh area)

Better opportunities tomorrow i feel.

Regarding tomorrow nights deluge from the east. I did at first think it may be dynamic rainfall but then checked the charts and this shows around 500-700j/kg of ICAPE at 3am. For early in the morning that is a lot of CAPE and i do therefore think there will be a thundery element to this rain (providing things do not change before tomorrow night).

Saw them on Dover webcam, they looked fierce as hell ! Was there lightning visible in any of the anvils ?
