Currently 6.0C here but I think this is because we have got a constant 9mph north to northwesterly breeze and because of there still being some clouds around.

I don't think we'll even achieve a ground frost.

Wonder why the temperatures here are so stable.

I went outside to pick up a pizza (city centre) about 10 minutes ago and i can confirm that there is definite wind, likely to be more outside the centre as well. That said there was a definite windchill and it felt bloody cold.

Waking up at 6am tomorrow just so I can try and see a snippet of a frost.

Sunrise is about 7.50am so the temp will continue to fall until after sunrise, assuming it stays clear and wind free.

The temperature nationwide are roughly where the GFS placed them at this time of night.

In my location there is too much of a breeze tonight for frost.. currently 7.9C

It does show you though how, at this time of year the sea has a great influence on the coast, as just inland it's hitting 1-2C already in parts of Northwest England - for example Northwich area), yet at the coast it's 8-9C - these differences fascinate me more than the frost itself.

Isn't much of a breeze here at the moment, if any

Yeah, but with advancing mild uppers and possibly cloud, i'm not risking it! lol

Must remember whilst we are under very chilly air, it is only October and there is always a sharp fall after sunset and then the temperatures will level off somewhat so its no surprising too see peoples temps stalling or even rising by 0.1C or more.

On the whole though, aslong you stay clear and cloud free then your temp will keep on dropping although I suspect places like Northern Ireland could see their temps rising with frontal cloud and slightly milder air.

5.1 at the moment, am only a few miles from the coast. Very slight frost last night though and lowest temp a few days ago was 1.8. Feels bloody cold outside though.

Look at the temperature plummet at Woodford when the northwesterly flow ceases and the onset of the katabatic flow from the southeast, classic frost hollow.

I bet if the country was under a steaming summer humid southerly flow, Great Asby would get a ground frost in the spell.

His sensor is sat in a constant feed of liquid nitrogen.

Absolutely, Woodford seems to plummet quite alot in these conditions, there is never specific timing, but when it does plummet, it can drop 2-3 degrees in as little as an hour. Hawarden is another station that gets this, although tonight it's probably too close to the northwesterly flow to get a frost.

Currently 6.4 degrees here according the MetO. A rise of 0.4 from the update beforehand at the Ballykelly station. The Eglinton/Derry station on NOAA hasn't been updated since 6:20pm and then it was 8 degrees with a dew point of 4 degrees. Looks like I'm out of the frost game tonight :(

It was on the 25th this month last year that the coldest October record for 17 years fell, with -6.6'c being recorded. So the potential is there for extreme frosts when the right set up is in place. So far however Buxton is now at 1.9'c and still falling, a while to go yet.

Hope this breeze dies down at some point here otherwise I will start to worry as the temperature has actually risen to 6.2C when it was 6.0C earlier.sad.png
