Today there is the risk of damaging winds in places, gales are likely to affect many areas away from the storm zone, warnings have been issued, trees are quite leafy so a risk of falling trees, damage to some structures is a possibility, most areas seeing very windy weather rather than any damaging winds but Northern Ireland , Wales , Northern England and Scotland would see High Winds in many places, for the South it is likely to be a very gusty day here to, a swath of winds moving through the high risk areas could be enhanced by convective activity so increasing the risk of damage, please see warnings for the areas of risk, i have drawn up a risk map-this using wind strength charts using the main models.

the map covers thursday and possibly into the early hours of friday to.

Convective activity is likely for many, this would produce torrential rain, severe squally gusts, hail, there is a seperate thread for this, please use this thread to chat/discuss the winds today.

Your forecast map for us in the Southwest has been pretty much spot on ESS. A typical windy day it has been down here.

depends where you live I suppose!

Where better to live than your location if you like wind!! LOL

Everyone has different perceptions I suppose, 60-70mph I class as noteable as that is a powerful windspeed to experience without putting myself in danger.

Only experienced winds gusting 90mph+ once or twice here and that was awesome and very exceptional!! Oh and pretty scary! You are probably used to that...

A very windy day it was! even where i am it was very gusty, and Heathrow recording 47mph on the day! - saw this on MetO mobile latest weather reports late in the day-and its shows on the map as the highest gust, i think it was when the squally showers come along late afternoon with convective gusts, that was when we had the most gusty weather of the day here, saw soon nice fluffy anvils and dark skies.

here is the highest gusts recored on the day of gales

Well we certainly didn't get winds that strong here so the 47mph gust was probably due to some passing convective showers.
