It’s Snowing in Minnesota! Yes, October Is Early for That.

Early Friday morning, the temperature in Houston was gradually cooling from a high of 88 degrees, part of a Texas summer that just will not quit. Meanwhile, more than 1,000 miles to the north in Minnesota, a different kind of cooling was taking place: More than a foot of snow was coming down.

The rare early October storm that blanketed northwestern Minnesota and parts of North Dakota beginning Thursday is expected to continue moving west Saturday, the start of what could be a very snowy winter.

Grand Forks, N.D., reported three and a half inches of snow on Thursday, according to the National Weather Service, a record for this early in October. In Middle River, Minn., eight inches fell.

But the heaviest snowfall was in Roseau, Minn., 10 miles from the Canadian border, where 14 inches of wet, heavy snow fell, snapping tree limbs and causing power failures in the town of 2,500, which bills itself as the birthplace of snowmobiling.

“We’ve gotten snow this early, but not like this,†said Greg Sorensen, a dispatcher at the Roseau County Sheriff’s Department.

STORMS TO BATTER BRITAIN AGAIN

BRITAIN is braced for torrential rain and fierce winds to bring chaos as more storms tear in today.Forecasters warned four inches of rain could fall in just 24 hours while galeforce gusts of 70mph threaten to batter coastal and exposed areas.

Worst hit will be the North, where the Met Office has a warning in place today and tomorrow.

Forecaster Charlie Powell said a heavy band of rain will move across the country from the West.

It comes two weeks after parts of the UK were devastated by floods.

Heavy Snowfall Across Parts Of Australia

Heavy snow has fallen across parts of Australia despite it being more than a month into spring.

More than 300 motorists were rescued after the snow brought traffic to a standstill west of Sydney, and up to 2,500 homes lost their power supply.

Areas affected include the Blue Mountains, Blackheath, Mount Victoria, Medlow Bath, and the Megalong Valley.

A spokesman for the Endeavour Energy company said: "We are hoping an expected break in the weather will allow us to use a helicopter to survey the damage from the air."

Drivers were stranded as the Great Western Highway in the Blue Mountains became impassable, with slicks of potentially deadly black ice developing as temperatures plunged.

Emily Lambert, team leader at the RSPCA Blue Mountains Animal Shelter, arrived for work in Katoomba and found several centimetres of snow.

"The animals found it quite funny," she said. "One border collie didn't know what to make of it and ran around, trying to chase the snow flakes."

Video footage showed kangaroos jumping across snow-covered grass.

Blue Mountains city Councillor Don McGregor said the snow was the thickest for 10 years.

He added: "I'm no skier, but I'm confident I could ski on it."

A severe weather warning of strong winds has also been issued.

People in Sydney, the Illawarra, the Hunter and south coast were told to avoid the surf, as an "intense" low pressure system moves slowly northeast.

Forecasters say temperatures will rise over the weekend and winds will start to ease.

The Express are at it again

A FORTNIGHT OF FLOODS AND GALES

BRITAIN faces two weeks of torrential rain and fierce gales as a “dreadful spell†of weather takes hold.

Forecasters say non-stop downpours and savage gusts of up to 70 mph are likely to cause chaos until the end of the month.

It comes after heavy rain triggered flooding in some areas, forcing people out of their homes and causing travel misery.

Fast-moving torrents swept away part of a gorge and roads were engulfed in knee-deep, swirling floodwater yesterday in Fife, Scotland.

The water washed away part of a road and hit homes near Pitscottie.

Torrential rain in the South-west left roads flooded and houses in Somerset under several feet of water.

Weathermen last night warned that after a brief lull another low pressure system will roar in from the Atlantic on Tuesday.

No there not.

Actually, I disagree with your "They're not" because they are... At least, as far as the weather is concerned, several of them are, There are those who take as gospel forecasts that have no substantiation in any models just because they give them an excuse for "weather hell" headlines as an alternative to "Freddie Starr ate a piece of pie with the image of Princess Diana on it" ones. Judging from what I've encountered over the last few years (a non-scientific survey, to be sure), the Mail, Express and Telegraph all appear to publish, on a semi-regular basis, unsubstianted, "freak weather" news items. The Independent and the Guardian are slightly less scare-mongering in the short term but blame AGW.

What was the topic again?

GLOBAL WARMING 'STOPPED IN 1997'

GLOBAL warming stopped 15 years ago and the average temperature has not risen at all since 1997, the Met Office said last night.

But critics said the Met Office had released the figures onto the internet without publicity – in contrast to the attention it gave to those released six months ago that reinforced the case for global warming.

Those figures went up to 2010 – the hottest year on record – and showed a continuing warming trend.

BRITAIN SET FOR TRIPLE WASHOUT AS FLOODS AND GALES COME

BRITS are about to be drenched again, with a triple washout forecast this week.

Downpours are expected tomorrow, Wednesday and Thursday to make our wettest autumn in 12 years even worse.

South-west England and Scotland face fresh floods due to storms with 50mph winds.

GLOBAL WARMING 'ENDED 15 YEARS AGO'

GLOBAL warming stopped 15 years ago, new Met Office figures have revealed.

The data showed there was no overall rise in temperatures between January 1997 and August 2012.

It means the world climate has been stable for the same amount of time as things were hotting up, from 1980 to 1996.

Winter to be colder than normal as chances of white Christmas increase

Britain will shiver through winter with snow, bone-chilling -18C (0F) temperatures and transport disruption, forecasters have warned.

But look on the bright side – the predicted freeze means there’s a good chance of a traditional white Christmas, as high pressure blocks mild Atlantic air.

‘We’re forecasting a colder than average period from mid-November to late January, with significant snow at times, particularly in the north and east, but with London also seeing snow,’ said British Weather Services’ senior meteorologist Jim Dale.

‘Minimum temperatures are expected to fall to about -10C in southern England and -18C in parts of Scotland.

‘Road users will need to be aware of snow hazards.’

There’s one last blast warm weather in store before the chill.

A 21C (70F) Indian summer is predicted to start on Monday as Hurricane Rafael runs out of puff in the Atlantic and shunts warm air across Britain.

But after that it’s time to wrap up and stay wrapped.

‘Cold is the main feature of this winter,’ said forecaster WeatherWeb.

Its only a matter of time now until we get a front page headline from the Daily Express saying -18c winter on the way or something like that

GLORIOUS! A BURST OF SUMMER ON ITS WAY

BRITAIN is warming up to bask in a glorious Indian summer next week.

A sizzling blast of hot air is due to flood in from the Continent on Monday sending temperatures above 70F (21C).

Forecasters said the entire country can look forward to “unseasonably warm†weather, with the South in for an almost summerlike burst of glory.

A final hurrah of summer will be welcomed by many after a week of torrential rain, floods and fierce winds. In the South and along the west coast, gusts of up to 70mph whipped up the sea while torrential downpours saw up to an inch of rain fall in a matter of hours.

A high pressure and a blast of hot air from Spain is likely to trigger a dramatic turnaround next week with blue skies and sunshine expected for much of the UK.

Jonathan Powell, forecaster for Vantage Weather Services, said temperatures in the South could soar into the low 70s.

could this be the last time you can be "Summer Sun"? Maybe next weeks Express headlines will be "Brrrr Mini Ice-age on it's way!"

I'm intrigued to know what date you predict when you'll change your name. I'm about to wake from Hibernation to the joys of winter (-;
