Many of this country's great snowstorms in history have happened in February. There have been many years when after a poor December and January, February has come to the rescue. Even in February last year there were some short but good bouts of winter weather...

...and don't forget 1991...or 2009.

The weather has never stuck to the official start of any season in any country. It certainly ignored Autumn at the end of November anyway!

Well said some are just too young too have experienced proper february bitter cold and the best snowstorms have occur in feb, days grow longer the cold grows stronger that is the saying it`s true upper air gets colder.

Quite the opposite currently as the upper air is quite mild,a classic inversion.

Made -5.6c last night coldest night of the year, max of 1.2c now it`s -1c and feeling very cold with a freshening westerly and it looks cold with all this haze, low cloud coming in,midlands could some freezing rain tonight.

thats the saying ive never agreed with, 'the days get longer cold gets stronger' I think more the other way, certainly how the last 2 winters have gone

Any brief cold that was on offer this weekend seems to have almost gone now. To be expected anyway. However at least a good wind at times this week and a little rain with some sunshine at times and feeling milder. Im starting to move into the phase where ive had enough of the cold now and hope it begins to warm up soon though not just yet. A hard frost this morning-very cold.

Take the CET for EG we`ll look at the 1971-00 average.

November has shorter days 6.9c less frequent of cold snaps.

March longer daylight 6.3c more frequent cold snaps.

Your going to get on average more frosts and snow in march to november.

Last March gave a severe frost if I remember colder than this week.

2.9oC in West Malvern at the moment and it's started to rain quite hard. That would correlate with the bright band on the radar just moving this way. Looks to be a short spell of rain only as that band is quite narrow over this area. Maybe more rain for those further north?

Feeling rather pleasant out there today. Nice to be able to just stand still without shivering for a change. :)

If the GFS came off in FI in Summer it would be pretty hot or very warm if rather cloudy probably but if it happens, whats the chances of a bad summer then. Lol.

Please note i do not believe at all in High and Low pressure balances etc ;).

Hi Luke, yep it was beautiful out there today, wall to wall sunshine for most of the day, and feeling quite warm in the sun.....I would like some more snow, but I'm also looking forward to hot summer days, and balmy nights, with a spanish plume MCS of course! :D

As we are into a quiet spell:

1982-2011 Walsgrave.pdf

Mum and Dad are moving to Long Lawford, Rugby tomorrow, 10 miles ESE of Walsgrave, Coventry, so that ends almost 30 years of rainfall records. sad.gifHopefully, the small garden of their bungalow will be enough for accurate rainfall measurement!

My thoughts exactly. Whilst more snow would be cool, im not fussed if there is no more. Nothing better than a warm night, the sun setting, a roaring BBQ on the go and a beer or whatever takes your fancy.

mmmm :D

more snow ??? the City of Nottingham would just like any snow. Ok thats not quite true we did get in snow in December but nothing like the rest of you got. Even Leicester got a dumping of snow but Nottingham, a couple of inches at most. Given the current outlook it looks like the best chance for Nottingham to get some decent snow has once again gone for this winter. Amazing to think that even with Decembers set up we missed out again on the heavy stuff, nothing can penetrate our snow shield LOL.

Would have been nice for winter to have given us another chance in February but as already stated its not looking good for a return of the cold snowy weather at the moment.

On a lighter note, a red hot summer would more than make up for it :)

I think weve gone from some of the best winter charts in years to some of the worst winter charts in years. It feels like those pre 2008 winters again but thankfully i dont care if it doesnt snow anymore. Roll on Spring. :D

These rain events never hit us hard in the end, the last time it lashed it down with rain here was 27th December, everything since then has been never been more than moderate here.
