We got a good base covering in Leicester now, still dinner plate size flakes, another hour of this and we will have enough to build a short lived Snowman ... Great to look at out the window so Christmasy ..

Rather surprised this morning here, had 2cm of snow here in Telford, its been heavy at times to and the fact that looking on the radar its almost cleared away means it may clear before it turns to rain :D

AND the chaos continues, cars abandoned, roads gridlocked, still heavy snow, and that all at 150 to 180 ms

imagine what its like higher up, in the Peak District.

I haven't seen flakes as big as this for a long time, if ever. They are bigger than 50p's

Why can we never get intense snow like this in cold spells?! Only happens when mild air is coming in

lol, Well the technical reason is there is not as much water in the flake in a real Cold spell so the flake is lighter and smaller. We have the technology to make it Snow better don't know why we don't use it lol

Surprised that the temps have actually dropped as the morning has gone on, 2 hours ago they were about 2c here, now they are 0.8c with a dew of 0c! They will be up to about 5c by 3pm though, make no mistake lol.

still snowing hard and proper flakes.

Nice pic, shows what a bit of elevation can do, I bet low ground in Derby has a dusting at best, probably not even that, yet at 160m you have about an inch or 2 by the looks of it.

evaporative cooling . We are suppose to get a lot of fog after it is cleared so at least it will feel wintry . Temp's in the SW are dropping as the band clears as well . I still think there is a chance some places will see back edge Snow tomorrow just can't figure out where ...

looks like it could be finishing soon, and it has been a full snow event here with no rain.

road outside is tricky, and this is the main route to 50% of the town.

Stopped now at Keele, slight thaw, 2cm. Just gone out and measured it with a ruler, much to the amusement of my work colleagues!

Just under 2 inches of snow, which ich now theres freezing light drizzle, and freezing fog.

0.0c and light east wind now perfect direction :D it was drifting earlier with the wind had picked up in heavier snow.

So that was it once the wind comes from the south later it`ll get milder tonight/later today.

well stopped now.

pretty good effort, considering the air wasn't to cold. Just shows we can still achieve a small amout of frontal snow.

will it still be here tommorow.

Temperature rising to 1.0oC, snow on the ground is beginning to thaw and go soft underfoot. Still in thick hill fog.

Today has certainly been one of those nice surprises, yes its thawing now but i expected a dusting followed by heavy driving rain all day when instead there was fairly heavy snow from 7-9am, 2cm cover (an inch on some surfaces like shed roof etc) and instead of turning to rain its a nice slow steady thaw with fog and the temperature only slowly rising.
