Started and ended the day in Fredericksburg. Drifted West along I-10 Towards Junction and watched the Storm we were to chase go up just 8 Miles to our North, followed this down I-10 where it covered 32 miles in 4 Hours! Some nice Structure but alas no sign of Tornadoes again today. Retreated back to Fredericksburg for Aarons Birthday Meal before taking the guys out west again to see the Approaching Mess of Storms that are now Impacting our Overnight Location.

Currently into our 3rd Hour of Contineous Heavy Rain and Close Cg's, this town must have had nearly 3 Inches of rain already, Lights have gone off twice already and no let up in sight just yet, great way to round off the Tour!

Pictures from the others to follow

I kinda chased today though I wasn't expecting to. Headed to Carlsbad Caverns for one last state aprk before heading home, and as I was between Roswell and Carlsbad. I could see a storm ahead of me. Nothing was showing on radar (due to the mountains creating a huge radar hole of Carlsbad I found out later), but I got the Svr T.Storm warning over radio and decided to chase it instead. Hail to 0.88 inches was reported in Carlsbad, but the main reason they were warned was due to wind. Lots of dust was being kicked up along the leading edge of the storm. The Carlsbad storm weakened and another to my East got Svr warned but again, they never did anything that worthwhile. I used the chance to try capturing daytime lightning shots. Even at F14, I could only shoot for 0.4 seconds and that was overexposing the shot by about 2 stops with the hope of reeling that back in in post processing. As a result, I only got a few daytime shots but they are my first so I can be quite happy :) Also, hand holding for so many shots got quite tiring :D I got plenty of CG's on the vid cam but have yet to go through that, and also have some 'structure' shos on my second flash card, but the 'structure' was so poor I'm not sure it's worth transferring those over.

Quite a few from yesterday, it was a really good day again...

The CG's were lasting long enough to take daytime photos without a tripod...

Here's a close CG strike from the hotel last night.

Not as close as Ross's video, but still quite impressive...

There's nothing more impressive than a severe thunderstorm in the middle of the night, for one thing you might have been asleep just before it started, but in my case, some of the worst storms I can remember over many years (living in Ontario) seemed to happen late at night, including the one tornadic supercell that I encountered. It can be quite terrifying even in a house, let alone if you're camping which many people like to do here in the summer (I mean in tents or small vans etc). Just trying to deal with the intense lightning and the thunder right away, no delay, and you know you are somewhere very close to where it hit the ground, but in the tornadic storm, what really got my attention was the continuous thunder, I had never encountered that before in any big storm. It went on for about twenty minutes, just lightning away about half the time and you could see the trees in our garden bending almost all the way to the ground. Found out there was a tornado very close to our location when daylight came, and the track just ended before our house, so it must have lifted.

Not sure why the weather gods or God (as you wish) might want to spare the likes of me, must have been my family I would imagine. I mean, as impressive as these Texas storms appear on radar and in the photos and videos, I have seen worse storms in Alberta and Saskatchewan driving home from summer holidays, so the season doesn't end, it just shifts north. I am hoping to do some chasing in late June or early July if the weather pattern looks promising, and the territory would be southern SK-MB and ND, e MT and perhaps SD-MN.

By the way, a terrific job all around on this year's storm chase, I really think the live feed and maps make it a lot easier to follow especially for the people back in the UK.

Looks like a volatile severe storm day developing across southeast KS and northern OK today, at the moment the warm front in east-central KS is back-dooring into the complex and setting off severe storms, but later on it looks more tornadic for the region around Wichita KS to Enid OK and further southwest. Could be worth its own thread here if someone wanted to start one (I am not authorized).
