Started the day in Weatherford Texas and had a prelimary Target of Fredericksburg for some Storms today. Did not envisage Supercells today but we got on a few that were producing Extreme Hail near and along I-10.

So make that 8 Storms from 8 Days and 4 Supercells in the Death Ridge Pattern :(

Got to Fredericksburg at 5pm as some Storms were firing over the Mountains and drifting East. Booked into our Hotel and then hit the road to a Supercell that was 23 Miles to our South.

post-24-1243481510_thumb.jpg - Reports were coming in of Grapefruit Sized Hail with this Supercell

Thank god we had the Barons as it did not drop out once and allowed us to manouvre around the Cell, Definately No Core Punching today :):(

post-24-1243481735_thumb.jpg - Had to drive through some pretty dense Hail Fog along I-10

The scene went from the Normal Tropical Palm trees to Autumn as every Tree had been stripped bare of its leaves

Chuffed you had another good day. Good photos. Shows how much hail fell that it is sufficient to strip the trees of any leaves!

One day, one day.

What is hail fog?

From Wikipedia -

Hail fog sometimes occurs in the vicinity of significant hail accumulations due to decreased temperature and increased moisture leading to saturation in a very shallow layer near the surface. It most often occurs when there is a warm, humid layer atop the hail and when wind is light. This ground fog tends to be localized but can be extremely dense and abrupt. It may form shortly after the hail falls; when the hail has had time to cool the air and as it absorbs heat when melting and evaporating.

Maybe someone somewhere was saying "All hail to Paul and the crew" for managing to be so successful during the "drought", and locating these storms.

Sorry 'bout that :D

Thank you! Thought it might be hail melting and evaporating.

What is hail fog?

Hi

Hail fog forms when you get millions of tonnes of hail falling into warm air. I lays on the ground whichis also warm andiIt creates a thick cold fog , which can and does cause lots of road accidents. Its like when you open the fridge door in a warm room only 100s of times thicker.
