Started the day way down in Wichita (Ks) with a Chase Target of North Platte which would be a 360 Mile Drive North and West. The Storm we went after actually formed within 30 Miles North of North Platte and just as we got there at 5pm.

This was the Storm as we headed North on Highway 83

post-24-1242878519_thumb.jpg - Convection really struggled Initially against the Cap

post-24-1242878562_thumb.jpg - Pileaus Cap

post-24-1242878593_thumb.jpg - Convection

We let that Storm go over us at Thedford and then went West a few Miles to a Storm that was showing Supercellular Characteristics

post-24-1242878633_thumb.jpg - Mesocyclone

The storm then accelerated East so I had to shoot east and then back South down 83 To try to beat it, stopped briefly to shoot a Picture of the Downburst and Hail approaching us

post-24-1242878706_thumb.jpg - Impressive Core

Then had to shout at Arron and Mark that we were about to get cored and to get into the Car quick

post-24-1242878782_thumb.jpg

We never outrun the core and got into some serious sweeping Hail and Outflow winds that were about 60mph, the hail was about penny sized, but the rookies loved it (Sorry Stu)

Ended the day at North Platte and had a Storm sideswipe us that created a Sandstorm from the nearby Sandhills

A better day than we expected

Excellent first day! Better than I could have imagined after seeing the forecast before I left home.

Here's a couple of my pics...

Here's a few photos of mine. Not a bad day in the end, Arron and Mark experienced their first very strong outflow winds with rain curtains and hail blowing across the road as we escaped being munched - which was good:

Highway 14 over the Rocky mountains. I'd wanted to take 14a which was a scenic route, but it was still closed due to snow from the winter :aggressive: That's not to say that Highway 14 wasn't scenic. It's a stunning drive :winky:

Impressive shots of the storm and that hail looks pretty intense.

How close to Yellowstone is the snow?

I'm at Cody, east of Yellowstone, and it is snowy up on the peaks but not down here. I havn't been through to Yellowstone yet, as I kept stopping every 5 minutes whilst driving today to admire views :) I imagine there may be snow in some of the higher areas... we'll see....

Brilliant to get on that storm and capture a collection of great images yet again ..!! Stunning clarity of the hail-core and

a nice wall cloud well worth the long haul North.....
