  1. Heavy dew early this morning and the southern half of the sky duck egg blue and the rest cloudy. Soon all cloud covered, a few spots of rain and generally more like early October than August.
  2. Wish we could, we do a good storm, and you can see it coming and going for a long time. But I seriously doubt that you've ever had any weather that passed this way first, things just don't cross the Pennines on a South Easterly. Now there's a challenge for somone to tell me I'm wrong
  3. Hi Mokidugway, a good question, and one I asked myself when I was motivated to take an interest after an absence of a few years. I had to trawl through the thread on closing down regional discussions to find the answer. Expected to find that Lincolnshire was in the region containing Midlands or East Anglia, but no, we're specifically lumped in the rest of Northern England. Our weather is as different to most of Northern England, and particularly to your location, as it's possible to get in the British Isles. Probably get half your rainfall and half as much again sunshine. Of course, I could be a rebel and post in one of the above mentioned regions, but my time for insubordination was long ago.
  4. Not windy, not very warm, generally not raining, not a lot of sun. Not much else to say.
  5. Sleaford, Lincs saw plenty of rain, thunder, lightening and dramatic skies (our skies are big here) on Friday and Sunday. Settled the dust and stopped the harvest. Merely mobile today, no rain to speak of just a tinge of autumn in the air.
  6. Agree with you John. I'm not at all sure we could cope as well as we did then, particularly if there were problems with power supplies. Be careful what you wish for.
  7. I'm just an observer of the model threads, but I do like the objective style of TonyH's post. I hope this thread will develop like that, without the subjective qualifications such as 'poor', 'upgrade', 'downgrade' etc. applied to models according to the posters particular bias.
  8. Absolutely with you Ben. Lincs/Cambs and other places in the East need rain this spring and probably this summer that approaches 2007/2008 levels. It hasn't been a wet winter, which following on from last years well documented drought has left water supplies in an increasingly critical state.
  9. Much as I have always liked cold and snow, as a Taxi Driver I'm getting tired of driving children to school on the ice rinks they call roads in the Lincolnshire Fens. Yesterday was a welcome relief, this morning was plain lethal, as most mornings have been for the last two months. So roll on Spring, and daffodils, and the hedegrows turning green and the trees coming into leaf and no-one on the model discusion calling for the beast.
  10. Whining about people whining on the whining thread, irony lives......
  11. I'd just like to add my little whinge to one or two I've read about the Model Output thread. My gripe is with the lack of objectivity of some posters. There really are too many qualifying words used about the charts - 'excellent' 'fantastic' 'poor' 'dreadful' etc. What might be 'excellent' to you could be 'dreadful' to me (I'm a taxi driver), and vice-versa. My opinion is that those who use such words are probably biased in their interpretation, and I try to avoid them, which makes going through the posts more of a grind than it needs to be.
  12. Only time and its judgement will tell if this is to be an historic winter. But for most of the under 20's on this site, this spell, and perhaps this winter as a whole, will be a benchmark at the very least. I've followed the development of Netweather from before its formation by contributors to the old BBC board, and this is the cold and snow that most wished for, prayed for, and tried to read into the most unpromising models over the last 7 or so years. I remember 1963, it was exceptional, and I don't expect to live through another like it. But I'll also admit that I did not expect to see again a spell like the one we have now.
  13. Raining here, and turning to ice as it hits parked cars, roads and pavements. Really very treacherous driving conditions. Not seen anything like it since 62/63.
  14. They're not ready to abandon the cold solution yet...... http://www.weatheronline.co.uk/feature/2007/02/18_tma.htm
  15. This thread is a bit of mixed bag today, not all of it actually discussing the models. So I’ll take the opportunity to say something about the thread (not the models), that has irritated me for most of the winter. I look at the model discussion thread a lot, and invariably the most informative posts are those made without a preconceived bias. By this I mean those posters who do not approach their analysis from an almost obsessive desire to see what they want, be it warm, cold, windy stormy etc. I’ve learnt a lot from those who make genuine attempts to say, and sometimes second guess, what they see, and thanks to all of you. To the rest, no amount of wishing, or judgmental criticism, will get you what you want. Only what the weather actually brings, like today I hope, can do that. We also serve, who only sit and read.
