There has a been a stunning week over the Alps, with heavy snowfall widely and over half a metre in places giving fantastic powder conditions. This week is a little bit more mixed in terms of temperatures and snowfall, but there does seem to be quite a lot of sunny weather on the cards to enjoy the fresh snowfall, with some very cold overnight temps.

There was again some snow at the start of the week, but milder temperatures over recent days has led to a thaw and the best conditions over the higher slopes. However conditions are set to improve over the weekend with snow and colder temperatures pushing in from the North West. this week is set to be generally cold and turning very cold by the mid part of next week.

There were some snowfalls at the start of the week, and together with the sunshine of recent days, this has led to some great skiing conditions over the past few days. Over the past week, the pattern has been very similar , with low pressure around the UK, which has given the very wet weather and flooding, High Pressure to the East, with the Alps being mostly mild with generally southerly winds.

Definitely a week of contrasts there has been some very heavy snow over higher resorts in the Alps, very impressive for this time of year, and also after some resorts have closed at the end of the season. This makes a marked contrast to last season which ended much milder. The snow was though largely limited to higher slopes and it has turned milder towards the end of the week.

Finally we come towards the end of the season, this is the last full blog of the season although there will an update every Friday or Saturday until the end of April.
As expected, it turned unsettled towards the end of last week, however the snow level was high than expected at around 2000-2200m, but still some decent snowfalls did occur abo

The Alps has joined the UK in enjoying warm sunshine this week, with suntan lotion a must however this has meant that snow levels have dropped this week, by around 30cm, however at least temps have been cold overnight to refreeze the lying snow.
Best conditions can be seen on north facing slopes and the higher up you go the better the conditions. Elsewhere conditions are turning progressively slushy into the afternoon as the powerful sun melts the snow.

A very topsy turvy week in the Alps, as forecast there was heavy snow in parts of the Alps around the last weekend and the start of last week to quite low levels, however much milder conditions has meant that most of this snow has thawed, with conditions now very similar to that of last week.
Mild conditions seem quite likely for next week, so a further thaw seems likely, so good weather for skiing, even if the snow is likely to turn slushy in the afternoon and again suntan
It goes without saying how tragic the coach crash in Switzerland was this past week, and my thoughts are with those families effected.
