  1. Hardly. The Express is denialist territory. They are ramping this up like cold lovers on the Model thread because they know forecasts of extreme cold produce the following thought process in the uninformed: "Snow and ice? Then global warming must be socialist nonsense designed to allow our (right wing, but don't expect joined up thinking) government to raise taxes." Similar to Joe Bastardi's admission that he was ramping up the cold in North America to distract attention from the cyclone.
  2. Deep drifts here in Horwich, cutting off minor roads. Some people haven't been able to get out for two days (partly because some idiot got his 4x4 stuck in a drift and abandoned it parked across the carriageway, while Makinson Lane is behind a barricade of snow six feet high). Where snow cleared, the sun was enough to clear any remnants, but the drifts remain. Bitter and biting winds make the moors less than inviting!
  3. Having a good following (if this is true) proves nothing. Jimmy Savile had a big following. People will follow anything that moves.
  4. No! It needs to pivot and leave! Hate the snow. Snowing heavily over Horwich - it started at about 9am with light flurries. These were forecast, but it seems the heavier snow has come further north than anticipated late yesterday.
  5. I had to put up with day after day of whinging about the absence of cold during the winter instead of objective model comment, so I don't see why you should be spared the anxiety of those hoping to see rain now. I live in the North West, so this isn't a personal matter - I am just capable of understanding why people feel this way. Moreover, this isn't about a purely selfish wish for extreme weather that suits my individual taste regardless of the hazard to others. It is turning into a national crisis that directly impacts on the lives of millions and has a drastic effect on the environment.
  6. I will lay odds on the Torygraph, Wail and Excess spinning this as evidence that the world is cooling, not warming. The notion of a redistribution of temperatures will be far beyond them.
  7. I am sorry to say that is what the forecast suggests for this area. Rain for much of the day and strong winds. Rather cold, too. Sunny for the big match against Arsenal though.
  8. It's overcast with a very gradual thaw here in Horwich.
  9. Some snow overnight to join the white stuff covering us since last Tuesday and before and a very light fall just starting now.
  10. Cloudy and windy in Horwich. No rain at the moment.
  11. Light snow falling on surfaces cleared with much hard work on the part of my neighbours and me over the previous week.
  12. More snow and freezing temperatures in Horwich. The only good thing to report on this New Year's Day is a sighting of witch hazel blossom on a tree in Astley Park, Chorley which usually obliges with the first sign of spring for those sick and tired of winter, especially with all this involuntary skating on ice and burning up of one's pension in the central heating. One other good thing - the spikey plus thingies are excellent.
  13. Beautiful clear night last night, and I enjoyed a grand view of the blue moon with the partial solar eclipse smudging out a small arc in its lower quadrant. We've just had a light snow shower, but it has stopped now, thank goodness. Hoping to try out my Spiky Plus slip overs later today.
