  1. Heavy snow here in Bagshot for a while now, we've been lucky enough to be in the sweet spot today.. OAT 0 deg. C DP 0 deg.C.
  2. Very light snow now falling here in Bagshot. OAT -0.2 deg. C. DP -3. The darker pink echoes have just reached us and would expect the intensity to start increasing soon. Let's hope so anyway..

  4. If you've got a window seat that's to the rear of the wings you'll see them doing your wing, at least until the hot fluid runs down over your window..!!
  5. The OAT at LHR is -1 deg. C in light rain and snow. If there is any freezing or frozen precipitation on your aircraft (hard to imagine there won't be under those conditions) it will need de-/anti-icing prior to departure...
  6. Moderate wet snow here in Bagshot. Just over 1cm at the moment and the wet roads are rapidly turning white. OAT is +1.1. Interesting thing is that the intensity is constant and if anything increasing. Thought we were supposed to just get rain...
  7. Netweather radar still shows 'rain' for here but the 'snow to sleet to rain' event we had earlier has now turned to heavy snow..!!
  8. On a clear still night heat energy radiates from surfaces on the Earth in the form of longwave radiation. This infrared (heat) energy effectively radiates through the atmosphere to outerspace. As a result the surface temp of a car at night may be at or below the FP, when the OAT is actually 4-5 deg. C. During daylight the opposite occurs and shortwave radiation, in the form of visible and ultraviolet light from the Sun, is absobed by the Earth and the surface temperature of the car may, under certain conditions, be warmer than the OAT. Presumably the longwave radiation that takes place at night must equal the shortwave radiation during the day or we'd have a big problem..!!
  9. Just woken up to find that another 3 to 4 cms of snow has fallen here overnight, thought we were only due sleet/rain..?? NW Weather Radar does show that a small amount of snow fell around 22:00 but then apparently turned to sleet and subsequently rain for the rest of the night. As the areas of sleet and rain are bordered by straight lines is this a manual input? Unlike Sunday/Monday's it's wet snow this time but with the OAT a half a deg. C or so above the FP there is still no evidence of a thaw just yet.
  10. Light snow on and off here all morning, now turning to moderate (almost heavy..!!) snowfall... Really impressed with the NW 5 min. radar, shows the showers drifting up from the Channel over Pompey then on to us.
  11. Started snowing at West End, Surrey, at approximately 1545. Snow now starting to lay on the grass and parked cars. Have just driven back along the M3 to the Heathrow area and the snow turned to rain once we reached the M25 junction...
  12. Sounds like snow grains.... OAT -1C in light snow here but no sign of settling.
  13. It's been snowing at Heathrow for the past 50 minutes or so. Started with light flakes but over the past 10 minutes or so the size of the flakes has increased significantly and I would say it is now moderate snowfall. It's just starting to accumulate on the lawns. Even larger flakes now falling, all the aircraft will need de-icing..... Keith H
