Progressive radar

Recommended Posts

I think it is a good idea if netweather could develop a feature where by you can fast forward the rain radar into the future

Quite often for planned outdoor events etc it's important to find out when a rain band is going to arrive in your area - for example a rain band affecting SW England at 3 am moving into the Midlands at 6 am and affecting NE at 10 am.

Even if it's not a main band of rain moving in - it would be good if you can fast forward the radar into future time to see when heavy showers or storms are going to affect your location

I know you can rewind back the radar to see when rain fell - but I think it's more useful to do the opposite as a forecasting tool

Hope you find this idea useful

We do have a future radar for the next hour on the system which is accessed by clicking the right arrow past the latest time. Beyond the hour the radar becomes less useful as a lot can change - showers can develop, fronts can decay or pep up and so on, so for that it's better to use the rainfall forecast from the models - particularly the NMM viewer (for full and lite subscribers) as that has an hour by hour forecast.

We are considering adding a viewer for the NMM rain forecast onto the rain radar for the upcoming hours, but this isn't in the development plan in terms of an eta yet.

I was going to ask for a feature in a new thread, some hope the OP doesn't mind me asking in here?

Would it be possible for a progress bar on the mobile version of the v4 radar? There's time when I want to go back to say, 6 hours ago but it takes a months of Sundays to do it by tapping the back button.

Perhaps even allowing you to manually putting the time in?

It's the arrows that can be used to cycle back and forward through the timeslots - on the v4 radar the futureradar will only load on an unzoomed view though :)

Dubai Floods: Another Warning Sign for Desert Regions?

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall. It doesn't rain very often here like other desert areas, but like the deadly floods in Libya last year showed, these rain events are likely becoming more extreme due to global warming.
