Saw a Dark Green Fritillary butterfly this morning, the first one I've seen around here for many years; it was feeding on Knapweed flowers.

So far it's been a fairly good year for butterflies relative to recent years, though nothing to compare with when I was  young in the 50s and 60s.

they are fairly common in the peak district, feeding on violates. there was alot last year, i even saw one in an excited customers garden here in chellaston! hopefully the warm weather and mild winter has increased their populations.theres loads of ringlets down here now, they were very rare until recent years.
