It seems like Manchester is in the middle of the two weather types today as there is no rain or sun - just very thick mid-level cloud and quite breezy too.

 

Similar story here in Darlington we've had some sunny intervals these were most frequent during this morning

Cloudy this morning, a short spell of light to moderate rain around 07:30 GMT this clearing around 08:00 hrs. At observation, cloudy, damp underfoot, feeling cold in a fresh NE wind. Mostly cloudy through the morning. The afternoon saw showery moderate rain for around 45 minutes.

Currently at 16:15 hours, bright with hazy sunny spells, feeling chilly.

Again feeling chilly in the brisk NE wind.

A few brief showery outbreaks of light rain this morning and the occasional spot of rain early afternoon but other than this it's been a dry and mainly cloudy day with a fresh-strong NE wind. The cloud thinned at times after 1430 g.m.t to allow some hazy sunny intervals.
