Hoping for some developments in the home counties and s.Midlands today which gives the NW the better chance of seeing something, still a yellow-warning over us however for the risk of storms and rain into the evening.

Not sure what the chances are for Bristol to see anything today, but if not, some further opportunities perhaps tomorrow and Thursday by the looks of things....a bit of a now-cast situation as I am sure everyone is aware.

Good luck to those are are perhaps more in the firing line today! get some piccies if you can :p

Thunderstorm passing by just to the east, quite loud rumbles, not much rain.

A cell crossing the channel could be heading this way, if it maintains it's intensity. I'm off fishing later, could be interesting with 6 lightning rods stuck up in the air. :D

Latest lightning distribution..

I've just got out of work and surveying the situation as to where I should head. Looks promising with lots of cells across Wales.

As it currently stands (note the current bit) storms developing over the english channel are very unlikely to affect anywhere near London or the south east. They are likely to be elevated in nature (as per Nick F's storm forecast) and the steering winds for these storms will bring them due north or just west of north of their current position to landfall over Dorset and West Hants and drift slowly north/north west over Western Hants/Dorset/Wilts and into the west Midlands over the next few hours into the overnight period, providing of course they hold together.......As to any thing developing further east in the English Channel, who knows?

Indeed very unlikely any storms will affect the SE today but i think there is too much cloud affecting the Midlands now. Might have problems getting things going here but if they are elevated in nature that may not affect things too much.

Sat24 suggests the light rain over the Midlands may clear soon, may give some late sunshine. Meto rainfall prediction seems to think Worcestershire and environs may see some good downpours this evening. :)

current state of play, with heavy showers developing over the Midlands, and more thunderstorms brewing over the English Channel heading towards the Dorset/West Hants coastline drifting NNW
