First pollution warnings of 2015 are in place today

20150318_day1.png

Air pollution levels are expected to remain Moderate or High today across Wales, Northern Ireland and many parts of England under high pressure and light winds. In the far southeast of England, air pollution levels are forecast to be mainly Moderate under a northeasterly breeze. For Scotland, Moderate levels are expected in many areas but a freshening southwesterly breeze will bring Low air pollution to the northwest.

Large parts of England will see air pollution hit moderate levels today, although in some northern areas it will reach 9 out of 10.

I'd imagine many particulates/pollutants are odourless.

Well the other key indicator is that I'm having no problems breathing.

Air pollution is set to hit high for most of central and eastern England and locally in the south east very high tomorrow

Levels of air pollution are forecast to become High in many areas of central, eastern and northern England, with locally Very High levels forecast for a time in the far southeast of England. This is due to a combination of pollutants trapped near the ground, a light southeasterly flow bringing additional pollutants from the continent and, in addition, a small amount of Saharan dust in the air. Across the rest of the United Kingdom, levels of air pollution are expected to be mainly Moderate.

Cleaner Atlantic air will move in from Saturday bringing pollution levels back towards moderate and low

Thursday 17th

There is a risk of Moderate or High levels of air pollution across parts of England and Wales on Thursday due to Saharan dust, although large uncertainties remain with the timing and amount of dust. Elsewhere, levels of air pollution are expected to be Low.
