Was reading that article too a short while ago, seems nutty but also may hold an element of truth in its implementation/effect too, but in reality I think it would never happen.

It would need to be a huge wall up to around 37,000 feet tall and run from Texas all the way to the likes of Alberta if its going to stop the jet stream for a start which is the key ingredient. Plus, he obviously hasn't though how this will affect the weather further on from this!

Lets face it, it really is pie in the sky!

There is evidence that east-west ranges of hills far lower than that *reduce* the risk of tornadoes forming. There is something in it, but the immense cost of a structure which could not hope to stop most tornadoes makes it a non starter.Maybe in the future some means to slow wind speeds could be somehow propelled up at the last moment to protect urban areas - some kind of net?Considering the complete devastation which can be wrought it is worth thinking outside the box.

Think nature should just be left alone, its like playing with fire. Building these walls would block airstreams compensating for severe heat and severe cold that will be harder to be replenished. Surely that in itself could possibly cause more problems?

Real Nutty Stuff

Right up there, with people that suggest firing rockets into Hurricanes, to make them fall apart

Some people just can't accept that Humans do not have any control over Nature
