Looking at other stations, there is a North South split. with South Wales being much wetter than North Wales, which possibly explains as to why this might be.

Impressive... crazy weather. Next record to fall, winter rainfall? Just over 100mm required this month, looks a real possibility considering the outlook.

Out of the blocks quickly here with 34mm already.

Notice it was dry the first half of December, well 160mm here not surprising its the wettest January I`ve recorded, wettest month since april 2012.

This winter has been notable for more in the way of heavier showers abit akin to summer showers.

Although a fairly long shot, I think top spot is definitely within reach. Top 5 seems a certainty at the moment.

I notice 5 of the wettest 25 winters occurred during the 1910s. We may have the wettest winter of all this year, although that is still doubtful, but this decade is highly unlikely to be as wet as the corresponding one 100 years ago. It would be interesting to know whether there were reports of severe flooding in the Somerset Levels in the 1910s.

I would say it is highly probable that this will be the wettest Winter on  record -  just look at the models for the next fortnight! A very wet start to February, over 50mm here so far this month less than 5 days in.

Also remarkable that 10 of the wettest winters on the list were in the 30 year period from 1910 10 1939.

January actual and anomaly rainfall maps

Posted Image  Posted Image

Exceptionally wet across southern/central England, wettest January on record for many areas here.

Near the middle of the 300-500mm zone here so the 394mm I recorded looks about right

Got me on the 300mm border in actual fact only 236.3mm but a contrast from 150mm to 300mm across 10 miles nearby.
