Is it likely we could see the development of a Sting Jet from this storm? If so, how much warning would one get of such an intensification and its possible location? I was in London during the '87 storm and I believe that involved a Sting Jet. The roar of the wind was something I'll never forget.

Pop "Manchester" into the location box then please Posted Image  If you go up to the top of the screen, your username name should be displayed with a small arrow which opens a drop down menu, select "mysettings" then on that page there is a box to put your location into Posted Image

Amateur question, but what exactly is a sting jet? Iv read that it may effect the area where the low crosses, in which case it would affect me...

I only found out about them after reading the forecast, so I did a quick Google and found this helpful pdf:

It does rather sound like a fierce sea monster doesn't it!

Really hoping for the whole thing to take a drastic shift North! Not had a good day of gales around here for a long while and seems as my neighbour is reluctant to chop down his 40ft Conifer trees, This storm could be a blessing! Posted Image

However by the looks of its current predicted track, Monday will most likely be a rainy affair for us Derbyshire folk.

If they are like our neighbours lleylandii in 1987 they just bent almost 90 degrees with the storm and then whipped back - they are amazingly flexible. In fact for a while they protected our house like a giant hedge filtering the wind through them.

Just a question Paul. Do those wind speeds mean sustained wind speed or highest gust windspeed. Worried if it is sustained as it shows 64.4 for monday, I really don't want that to be sustained winds !  Posted Image

You are in the area most likely to see the worst of the winds! The actual 84 or even hour of 7am may vary but the English Channel looks more certain (with each model run) of seeing some extreme weather Sunday night and through Monday morning
