I drove home yesterday early evening from a long meeting in the Cotswolds where our deliberations had occasionally been interrupted by the rattle of 5-second hail showers, like tapping fingernails on the window suggesting we get a move on.  The first part of the journey from Evesham to Burford was beautiful.  Other than the trees, still almost all in full leaf, everything seemed to be pale gold, the fields where crops had been harvested, the Cotswold stone of the buildings, the fading sun, the diminishing light.  As I travelled along a near-deserted road across a high plateau it felt as though the whole landscape had opened up to give me a rare view and I was struck by a sudden feeling of privilege that I was out in that brief moment.  I tried to describe it when I got home but made a mess of it - sometimes I think you need a bit of distance to describe what was so immediate, if that makes any sense at all.....

I'm also noticing that pale gold colour to everything now, my friend thought I was mad!

Afternoon all,

Well I can report our first "fall" of the Autumn, here in Chislehurst. A light smattering of demerera sugar/coffee granules, on the kitchen work surfaces, overnight.

Very localised in places, and streamer in nature but no doubt brought about by a convergence zone (my son, bless him) setting up between the hob and the cooker.

Just a dusting but a little more on areas with some elevation, notably the biscuit tin and the George Foreman grill.

Settling of said ppn no doubt aided by the loss of hot water in the house, this morning, and dew points in the kitchen lower than normal, so some accumulation occured.

But gritters were soon deployed (me) and the work surfaces have now returned to normal. Hope to rectify the loss of water and encourage a SSW to develop throughout the hot water/heating system, on my return home later on tonight.

Have a nice day all.

Tom.

Raining pouring here .....looks like that's it for the day now so I can't see us getting anything else done outside - indoor jobs and activities or a look at what's on at the cinema !

Yes, I'd noticed that radar effect has appeared recently. When I first saw it, I wondered whether it was a pure fluke. It obviously isn't...

Well the rain held off until 14:00 which I guess isn't too bad.
