very similar to May 9th 2011 Staffordshire storm, well organized with the 'gates of hell' shelf/gust front.......see my you tube page for footage in my sig

The thunderstorm in Ashbourne last Friday looked similar although the gust front was not as pronounced. Lightning frequency probably similar though.

It looked a lot more impressive last night, covering a good chunk of land mass - should have done a screen capture instead of copy/paste as it's still updating - hence shows not much happening now in the morning. And yes, looks like a nice conveyor of storms going through down there.

Better on the equator!

I have managed to put together and upload video from the 2nd August storms, drove to west/NW into the path of the first storm, then a 2nd storm gave more lightning more in the distance but that was actually closer to my home than where I was. Didn't realise at the time due to poor phone signal and not realising quite what direction I was facing lol. Still saw quite a lot of the lightning and had a good view so probably a better position than at home.

various clips put together in order they were taken, lightning strikes within frame start just after 2 minutes, and slow motion lightning after about 5:30:

Something is definetly starting to brew around shrewsbury at the moment, dark skies and rather muggy but the sun is still shining

yes, but nothing on the radar. Some really darks skies around though which is nice to see.

So you didn't witness the night storm or the frequent storms in the day not long ago?

Its been annoyingly quiet here. Ive managed to see a few flashes and a few rumbles but I can count em on one hand.

Storms tend to go around me here when they come from the South and Southwest. I have a feeling the valley does something just for it to "pep" up as it leaves the valley missing, glos and chelt.

When we get a storm, Its normally good. But we have had minimal this year ( infact we have had hardly any rain at all. )

Funnel cloud seen from my house at 3:50pm this afternoon in near Cross Hands, Carmarthenshire - almost certainly the same one in Bobby's pic:

Rainfall radar for the same time:

We only had moderate rain here afterwards - I think most of the rain was further to the east.

It looks huge! Very cool!

Dubai Floods: Another Warning Sign for Desert Regions?

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall. It doesn't rain very often here like other desert areas, but like the deadly floods in Libya last year showed, these rain events are likely becoming more extreme due to global warming.
