Remarkable elaborately constructed way to imply Antarctica is warming when it's not.http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-27831958BBC loves to have a weekly tale of woe about a natural change of some kind - then contrive to somehow ascribe it as a negative impact of warming.

The very next morning here's a piece mentioning remarkable increase in Antarctic Ice - which in yesterday's article they said had reduced so much the sea bed was being changed.Jonathan Amos must have a very short memory?http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-27870459

Interesting off-message prediction of 5.4m square km too.

Funny that GW supporters over the years always mention the reduction of global sea ice as a sign of climate change ,but they been very quiet the last few years, with global sea ice higher than one standard deviation at this time, http://sunshinehours.wordpress.com/2014/06/17/sea-ice-update-june-17-2014-100th-daily-record-for-antarctica-global-sea-ice-higher-than-one-standard-deviation/

I fear from feed back that the word 'supporters' of GW has not gone down well.

'Cheerleaders' has been used more recently

Remember NOAA  said that July 2012 was the hottest on record? now they change their minds and now its back agreeing to most data at the time that July 1936 was hotter . So  the only logical solution is that data tampering took place in 2012 to fuel AGW argument.

Probably they were about to have one of the big politico jamborees, and were spinning the greeny media into a frenzy of warming doom?

The Gore - Palmer press conference was not that mysterious, the above article failed to mention the back story. Palmer is known to Gore, and Gore was in Australia anyway as part of his lecturing program. The money changing insinuation is just daft.

Australia's fixed carbon price followed by the carbon trading scheme was never going to survive following the election result in September, even though the Coalition ( Conservative parties ) didn't win a majority of the seats in the senate. The Labor-Green bloc is not big enough to save those hard fought for programs. The Palmer United Party however doesn't hold the balance of power alone, although they are the largest minor centre-right party grouping in the senate, and have a couple of independent members who are sympathisers.

Australia's senate numbers: http://www.aph.gov.au/Senators_and_Members/Senators/Senate_composition

Yes, Palmer United Party is led by a billionaire coal baron...but he is one of the biggest populists around...so he understands his limitations. We feel that he wants to be loved. His announcement marks a complete U-turn on his partys policy positions on climate change. PUP will now vote against the abolition of Significant environmental programs designed to cut Co2 emmissions, in particular the Renewable Energy Target.

Gore probably played a big hand in this shift, together with the negative opinion polls for the Abbott government.

Gore was there to stoke Palmer's ego and to add gravitas to the U-Turn, so that another U-Turn won't happen again.

That's my take on it... I don't think Gore is stupid!

You can see the Gore-Palmer press conference here. Gore is flattering him as if he was a wayward child now making amends, and Palmer loves it.

So Antarctic Sea ice continues to break all records and more and more excuses  why AGW is not effecting Antarctic sea ice , remember what was said by Royal Met society  A new study recently published in the Quarterly Journal of the Royal Meteorological Society says robust modeling evidence that the ice should melt  predicted that Antarctic sea ice would decrease in response to increased greenhouse gases and the ozone hole.

What's this ? In a warming globe we expect to see less ice? Who'd have thunk it?

When the deniers get over their delight at seeing certain Antarctic areas expanding extent ( and holding onto it over summer) they might mull over the end result of the 'trend' for warming that we are on? Once Ozone settles and the Antarctic oscillation flips back to the state we saw prior to the 80's what do they expect us to see happen?

Let us not forget the acceleration in the land ice losses across all ice sheets here, what does losing the ice from deep within a frozen continent tell us about conditions there?

Surely the deniers know that by making such a scene about the south they are setting themselves up for a fall once decline re-commences?

We see the same with global temp rises. We know that both natural forcings and man made forcings have rather dampened the past decade of warming ( but not stopped it!) so they make a loud noise....... do they not believe in natural forcings now? Do they not see short term natural forcings as variable in nature or do they only support the deniers in their forcings?

With PDO trending ever more positive ( are we seeing it flip positive???) they must be asking themselves what they have let themselves in for? The resumption of warming will have both the natural cycles adding into temp rises but also an arctic ever more bereft of ice ( and ever fuller of surfaces that absorb and re-emit the heat ) and and Asia becoming ever cleaner in its fossil fuel use? I know what I expect to happen come the next warming spurt...... do they?

I guess we'll just have to wait until 2050 or 2100 to see who is right. Sadly I'll be long dead by then. Not that it matters. Come 2050 when the doom prediction hasn't happened (again) the goal posts will move(again) until 2100/2150.

Planet Earth has warmed & cooled since the day it was created, the fact is the run away warming that the experts predicted hasn't happened (but but but it WILL!) & they still try & ram this down everyone's throat.

Amazing how these experts can predict an ice free world in 50/100 years yet we don't have the technology to predict the snow/ice cover next week.

That really is a puerile argument and has been beaten to death by deniers. Lung cancer occurred before smoking; ergo there is no link. Or you check your bank balance and find a major discrepancy. When you query it the bank replies that your account is always going up and down go figure. Which of course you accept.

Do you think you could do us all the courtesy of naming the scientists who predicted the runaway warming that hasn't happened. Are you also saying that no global warming has occurred in the last 150 years?  If a mass of scientific data is ramming down everyone's throats then so be it. from where I'm sitting most of the ramming seems to be coming from the denier camp. Have you checked Willard's latest ramblings.

On the subject of rambling.........................................

Indeed, see above. Come back to me when the poles ARE ice free & cold winters ARE a thing of the past. I look forward to it. What this has to with your flippant remark about lung cancer I do not know.

As for GW's reply, we've heard it all before. Perhaps you could enlighten us all as to how these marvellous models can predict the climate in 100's of years time yet we can't seem to make a model that can predict the temperature (or weather for that matter, climate is the word we use to describe weather conditions found in a particular place, or has that changed now too?) next week with any degree of accuracy?

That thread is like a cesspit of vindictiveness and hate as usual! They really don't like anything contrary being pointed out one bit. It's a pity denier can't be added to the swear filter, but 10% of the thread would vanish if it were.

Apparantly  ,according to the likes of Al Gore and the motley train of confused.com  gravy train scientists ,the North Pole should be ice free by now!

Its  sad That GW needs  to use popular and loved animals to justify there more and more desperate measures for there waning public support, they tried and failed with the stories of the demise of the Polar bears and now poor Penguins which again is more scaremongering rubbish .http://t.co/pA8iqHqy0K

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Climate_change_in_the_Arctic#An_end_to_summer_sea_ice.3F

The Arctic ocean will likely be free of summer sea ice before the year 2100, but many different dates have been projected. One study suggests 2060–2080,[37] another 2030,[38][39] and, yet another, 2016.[40][41] A 2013 study showed that simply extending summertime ice melting trends into the future in a straight line predicts an ice-free summertime Arctic as early as by 2020.[42][43]

Seriously just read that, If I draw a straight line for my bank balance(seeing as that was mentioned elsewhere) i'll be a millionaire next year :) So it could be 2020, 2060-2080 or maybe 2100. I'm not going to waste my time posting links to many reports like these so others can simply poo poo them as usual. The fact is the goal posts keep shifting because what they said would happen hasn't.....
