well the cold was persistant,  persistant AND record breaking sound better

You will be banging your head against a wall

Any record heat is man made any coldest will be met with well it was only the 3rd coldest on record

Australia is suffering as more cold is bottled up in Antarctica although some of it hit southern parts, just part of the weather

http://www.abc.net.au/news/2013-07-09/tasmania-weather-record-low-temperatures-snow-cold/4808610

Lets see Australia get 50 years of above average temps then it will get interesting

But the cold was only persistent in parts of the USA not all of it...at the same time above average temps and drought have been persistent in other areas and as a continent North America's winter season was in regards to temperature's pretty average.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Even if one is sceptical about MMCC, surely it's good sense anyway to look after the earth and do your best to be 'green'. That way if it isn't true then at least things are a bit nicer environmentally and if it is, well you've only gained, right?

There has been a marked decline in the frequency and duration of cold weather events in Tasmania over the last 3 decades, reflected by reduced highland snow cover and cold weather records, a situation exemplified in recent times.  It's not lost on the locals, especially those who live under the shadow of the capitals mountain, where lying snow is becoming so rare regular people often talk about it.  Tasmania also seems to be tagging along with the national temperature scene of late, which is of course making all the news.

Unfortunately the news article you quoted there overblew the event spectacularly. The temperature quoted was in fact the lowest recorded for any place in Tasmania since the all time record in 1983 - but the station in question was only opened in 2001 ( I covered this story in the Australian weather news section of this forum but got that piece of information a bit wrong ). Of the 60+ weather sites operating across Tasmania ( and Tasmania is a fairly big place, almost the size of Scotland..) only 1 other location broke a cold weather record for the month, but that too is a relatively new site, opened 1993. No daily maximum records were broken, no place got close. So the ABC claim that was Tasmania's coldest day..nup! The BOM is the only place to go if you want the facts

Islands like that are transient anyway.Despite the continual hype they will not sink below the Sea.They are naturally a dynamic shoaling/sandbank system which will self-maintain at pretty much the same level above the mean high water unless people start building airports roads and houses along the coast and stopping the natural processes. It's also unclear how global warming is  claimed somehow making the sea level there rise much faster (even if it were true)Doesn't this sound suspiciously like the land is sinking, or not being topped up with windblown sand as in the past.

Reminds me when the Maldives government held a meeting under water when they thought they were going to lose green funding

At least its from 2014 relevant and up to date  :drinks:

The other thread seem to be seeking out bloggers to deride. I assume because this guy has a beard he won't count either ??

According to the RSS satellite data, whose value for May 2014 has just been published, the global warming trend in the 17 years 9 [months] since September 1996 is zero (Fig. 1). The 213 months without global warming represent more than half the 425-month satellite data record since January 1979. No one now in high school has lived through global warming.

Any particular reason the cold temps in SA are not in the relevant weather thread?

We spent 3 pages on the man made thread discussing how cold the USA winter was or wasn't ?

I agree weather related events shouldn't be part of both threads but given all events from droughts in the USA the heat in Australia to the extra ice in Antarctica the cold in North America to summer heat waves in Eurasia to storms in New York are all 'man made' according to some the man mad thread would be left a little bit sparse if we took them away.

The high arctic is at present the coldest its been since records begun (1958) now I would say that's weather as well ,some will try and pin it as man made or dismiss the historic data. Obviously if it was the highest its ever been it would fill the man made thread.

From the man made thread

Hate, intolerance, and violence are embedded in the psyche of the environmental movement, as the following promo video illustrates.

Yes for the more extreme factions, almost anything goes because they *know* they are right and it is for the greater good. You aren't supposed to say this but modern environmentalism has roots in Nazi Germany. The Nazis had a strange relationship with their wild places.During WW2 in one place they'd avoid damaging the range of some butterfly - while in the next valley they were bulldozing bodies into pits.

I'm not sure if people under 18 are allowed on this forum, if they are perhaps I should take it off.
